What are some shows that the fandom completely misrepresent. Do you prefer the fanon or canon?

I always felt like a lot of Mad Men fans missed the point. Especially when it came to Joan and the Jaguar deal. So many fans talked about how she was a slut for sleeping her way to a promotion. I'm pretty sure she was trying to keep her job.

WOW, seriously? People thought that? Holy crap. That whole episode made me *so mad* and so sick and furious on Joan's behalf. Made me cry. WOW.

Yeah, lots of fans were like "oh, she sold out" or "she got the promotion on her back."

Really, the whole Mad Men fandom was misaimed. So much sexism.

Grooooooooss.

I loved Mad Men, for a lot of reasons, but one of the biggest reason i loved it was watching most of the women on the show find their own power, do their own thing, realize that men/some men were toxic, that they didn't need them, that they had what it took *without* a man....

I re-watched it recently, and basically ff through most of Don's crap, and watched Betty, Peggy, Joan, and Megan with extra attention. And - though he's an ass and a jerk - i really liked Peter's story arc, too.

I think a good part the "Harry Potter is too fluffy" backlash comes from the fact that the fandom tended to be very much the opposite, and still is. Whether it's dark novel-length fits, NC-17 kink... there's a huge dissonance between everyone in a fic except the trio dying, or Harry and Draco doing BDSM, and what the books present. I don't think that's all of it, I think every fan has their own reasons for feeling however they do, but it doesn't help that since GoF was released, fandom's really made Harry Potter way more mature and adult than it was ever going to be in canon.

While that is a fair point, HP DID get more dark after GoF, canonically. I do think some people went overboard with it in fanon but keep in mind that HP is a YA series. Had it been an adult series, it definitely would've been as dark canonically as a lot of people made it to be in fanon. That's just my opinion.

Well, Teen Wolf is not about the romantic trials of Derek and Stiles. Honestly, I prefer the fanfiction because I think Scott couldn't be more of a boring character to watch.

Omg omg omg.
Let us talk about how he said to Derek's *face* that Kate/the hunters 'must have had a reason' to BURN HIS ENTIRE FAMILY ALIVE.

Let us talk about how he blows off his friends - in times of dire need! - to be with his girlfriend, let us talk about how he used Derek *more than once* to kill or infect someone against Derek's will, let us talk about how he is the 'true Alpha' but is probably the worst leader of the bunch.

HOMG, he is the worst.

That true alpha stuff was such bullshit. He didn't even like being a werewolf. He never lead the a group because he was too busy lying to every one or trying to get his dick wet.

Let's talk about how everyone warned him that the Argents were dangerous but he didn't care because GIRL!

Like he was such a failure the first person he turned had to be helped by Stiles and Derek to get full control of being a werewolf. But no he is totally a true alpha.

Remember the time he believed Theo's lie over Stiles side of the story and chastised him for killing someone in self defense??

OMFG, yes, all of this!! He sucked so hard at being a 'leader', and he did everything in his power to fuck Derek over and belittle him and make his life *worse*.....

Remember when he told the cops Derek was the one, so he'd get arrested? And then was totally unrepentant? GAAAAAAAAAAH.

Oh, yes, his dick always fucking came first, jayzus, so fucking lame.

And yes - disbelieving Stiles, treating his 'new' pack as if they were his true family, didn't care at all about Boyd or Erica.....
The list goes on. And on. And on. How i *despised* that character.

Star Trek: TOS for the most part. Kirk was a shy lit-nerd in academy, wasn't that arrogant, and didn't nearly have as many lovers as is commonly claimed.

Gundam Wing, haha. I'd encountered the fandom before I watched the anime, and when I finally watched it I was left with a whole lot of question marks. I was not expecting a show that's mostly about politics, haha.

I thought that Torchwood was about the True and Eternal Pure Gay Love of Jack and Ianto.

I actually like the messy reality a lot better.
