Aww, I wish I had some really awesome advice for you, but I'm awkward as hell and I've never been able to confess my crush without making a fool of myself. I'm not sure what happens in a public speaking group, but I'm assuming you guys have to get up and talk in front of the group solo at one point. If you do, maybe you can compliment her on her speaking style and ask for pointers? I'm sorry I don't have any better advice, but I wish you well!

Yes, I don't even know. Never asked anyone out except to a few high school party things. I'm so bad with people. And then I start thinking ahead and wondering if I'll be able to play it off to my family as a friendship when I never actually go out anywhere with friends even if she were to go out with me.

I like your idea, though. And maybe I'll invite the whole group out for coffee sometime. Gah. I don't know.
