Oreos without the filling. I make the Smitten Kitchen knock-off Oreo recipe without the filling, but it's just not the same. Famous Amos is probably the same cookie (I haven't tasted them in a long time, though), but those are really expensive in comparison to Oreos and too thin and delicate to pack for an outdoor lunch.

Non-prescription sunglasses that use whatever kind of extra-durable poly-carbonate lens stuff you can get for prescription glasses. Why am I paying so much money for fancy sunglasses that can scratch?

*waves tiny Kanan/Ezra flag*
And Kristoff/Elsa. They both appear to be introverts, he likes ice, he's very familiar with magic, he's never afraid of her, they seem like they'd get along wonderfully.

The key to the basement.

I might be way too big of a Shingeki no Kyojin fan lol.

Brian? Oh, Brian Froud?

Brian Henson, Jim's son. But as far as I know, he wasn't actually involved the Dark Crystal. I'm pretty sure it was Jim Henson and Frank Oz that were responsible for this one.

Edit: Whoops! You're right. Brian Froud. Duh. Ignore me.

Sherlock/Marcus Bell.

I just really enjoyed their banter in the beginning and how Sherlock pegged him as one of the more reliable detectives in the precinct and it grew into a friendship that I really love seeing. They respect one another a lot and I like that.

Sam/Natasha.

There isn't a lot to go on in canon for this tbh but I just really like the idea of it and think that their interactions are fun and have a lot of potential. I could see them being flirty goofs with each other while on-mission, but also knowing when to get serious to kick-ass together.

Sam/Bucky.

More from the comics but I like the beginning of their relationship in the MCU as well. But I like that while they poke fun at one another they genuinely love one another and will do anything to keep each other from harm. They work well together and respect each other a lot too. They're good dudes who could be good together.

Peggy/Dottie.

There was some damn fine hero/villain chemistry between them and it's easy to read Dottie was wanting to be like Peggy and to be with Peggy. It's fucked up and I like the potential for messy hate-sex after or during a fight.

That's all I've got off the top of my head atm.

Review/Analysis of Enterprise's "The Crossing"

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
The Enterprise runs across little orbs that have to communicate by taking over the bodies of crew members. If you think this sounds kind of silly...you are very, very wrong.

Yeah, I take public transit and walk everywhere, and it would be nice not to have to have employees assume I’m stealing because I’m carrying a full shopping bag around, which is especially annoying when what I bought is store brand from a different store so I literally couldn’t have stolen it from the second store. I make sure to keep receipts in case I run into someone who thinks I magically switched the logo or whatever.

Don't worry, we just scream and brandish a copy of Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion"!

I'm kidding. I can't stand Dawkins, what an asshole.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'm biased because I'm not a fan of the whole Daddy!Yondu thing, but here's my .02... after the first movie, I could maybe kind of see that because it was a topic left largely unexplored, and only hinted at. That's very fertile ground for fanfic imaginings.

But the second film made that more difficult because it overstated things too much, IMO. They hit the whole "chosen family" theme really, really hard, and the father vs. daddy thing really, really hard and for me, it was in a way that didn't resonate. It was just too ham-fisted.

My mistake, I could have sworn that Brian Henson performed in Dark Crystal, but he was still in high school. (Although he did work a scene in Great Muppet Caper.) Brian was deeply involved in most Henson and Creature Shop projects staring in '84 though.

Exactly.

Re: Genetic Tests

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Meh, there's not a single family tree out there that isn't descended from some shitlord. Pretty sure everyone in the world, no matter your heritage, is descended from a rapist, someone who owned slaves, a murderer, and someone who had sex with farm animals. Nothing really to be ashamed of.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I'm going to have to make a secret about that 'stache. :(

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Why? Is it the almost O-face? Or do you just like your generic pretty boys better with unfortunate hair?

Re: Genetic Tests

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
In what way? Though there's a small margin for error, obviously, all they are doing is mapping trends.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
^This. I think that's the issue, OP. You're advanced enough to see the flaws in your own work, but you probably need more practice and experience before you're able to overcome them. I totally feel you on that, it's such a frustrating place to be. I think the only solution is to give yourself a break and write more non-porn things, while reminding yourself that it doesn't matter. You're just throwing out words and seeing what happens.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
On the other hand, I think Dark Crystal is beautiful and boring.

But people have sent the same genetic material to multiple of these and gotten completely different results. They really aren't that accurate.

Re: Genetic Tests

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I really want to try, purely out of curiosity, though I don't expect to find any surprises whatsoever. Like I feel like my test would come back with a big "LOL KEEP DREAMING, WHITEY" written on it.

Then again, my supposedly upper Northern European stepdad took it, and had a few surprises. The first surprise was that the ~secret shameful Italian blood~ wasn't there (my grandma on that side literally thought this was a horrible blight on the family and tried to hide it to the point of pretending that ancestor was French, not Italian, so would have been delighted at this). Second surprise was they are a small part Jewish (racist grandma would have an instant heart attack if she found out). Third surprise was.... 1% Polynesian. (racist grandma would spontaneously combust if she knew) No one has any idea where that would have happened.

I'd like to give it a shot for fun anyway, but yeah, it's expensive.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
You may already know this, but Brian Froud's son plays the baby Toby in the movie. I think Froud himself may even have a cameo in the ballroom scene, as one of the masked dancers.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, exactly.
