Oxford/Cambridge is my bet. They have LOTS.

Re: Would you want to be a BNF?

I was, back in the day. It wasn't the hugest of communities and most people were nice anyway. The community was already on a wind down when I fell out with one of the other BNFs (not my fault - their massive overreaction) and I just left.

Oh OP, I'm actually kinda jealous that you're getting to see it for the very first time. I'd love to be able to re-experience that awesome first watch through.

lol, her books are famously minimally edited, i seriously doubt if she wanted to include something that her publishing company were going to argue the point and risk losing their billionaire earner.

Re: Why would she have to write a romance at all?

Actually, with most teachers in the series we know minimal amounts about, we tend to know their sexuality: Hagrid, Snape, Lupin etc.

I love that we can have an implied beastiality joke in the text, but apparently canon gays are unthinkable.

Yeah, 'all was well' and a monster in your chest was actually really good writing; and only clinging desperately to failed theories and headcanons could explain any disatisfaction.

Re: If someone in militia do this...... talk like this.

So... why don't you create some kind of politically conscious blog for the grammatically impaired somewhere? Or at least spam your stuff in one thread instead of posting several new ones for every rambling comment?

Word to this. When I try to think of fandoms with lots of f/f ships I immediately think of Sailor Moon and MLP:FiM, two shows that put a LOT of focus on the f+f friendships.

Of course, it also helps there's a lot of female characters in the first place...

Re: Wedding craziness

I'm always jealous of those people who say "My friend Susan is a florist so she offered to do all the flowers for free as a wedding gift! My friend Andy is a DJ so he offered to bring his equipment and be our DJ for free as a wedding gift!" and so on. My cousin's wedding was like that (although they still spent a bunch of money on it because they invited a lot of people) and I swear she must have spent several years going around purposefully making friends with people who could become free wedding vendors. I don't know any florists. I have a friend who works as a psychologist for the state prison system, so... yay?

OMG the thought of RPF with the characters of The Crown is just--I'm an historian and a huge BRF fan so this is blowing my mind a little. I'm not sure I could handle reading that about Lilibet and the rest!

The Deathly Hollows has a section talking about his relationship with wizard Hitler that very much appears to be "I'm trying to not admit that he's gay, but..." When I read it upon release, I was absolutely certain that it was Rowling implying but not stating that Dumbledore was gay.

OP, I get it.

Most college/university AUs are kind of terrible but I still read them even though reading characters known as adults but re-cast as teenagers usually feels like I'm eating underbaked bread -- almost but not quite done yet.

I don't expect hyper-reality in fic, but I was in post-secondary in the late 80s and early 90s and my age is starting to match some of the "older" characters, so it jangles my senses something fierce when those types of anachronisms pop up. Most of the time I can let it ride -- it's fic, after all -- but if it's bad enough, I have to stop reading because my own memory of reality gets in the way of accepting that someone could have googled something or watched movies or TV shows on their laptop in 1992.

Wow, I immediately thought "a Voltron secret." You're right, OP, there are a lot of examples! Such a weird, creepy trope when you drill down. :o

Is it just me or does Animal Crossing lose its appeal after two weeks/a month of playing? I want to pay off my mortgage and complete the catalog but damn if it isn't boring and ultimately, what is even the point?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-31 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
you and me both
