She's not great at it. There are legitimate weaknesses there. But I also think some of it is people hating her romances because they're not the ships that they prefer.

Hm, okay, but after reading the article, the headline sounds overdramatic and not accurate. The article states that they're still good friends despite the shippers. So yes, the shippers made things awkward for them, but they didn't "ruin" their friendship.

what writing? most of the romance actually took place entirely off-screen and was only ever alluded-to. That includes Harry and Ginny. JKR didn't actually write anything.

...okay well there was the first kiss with Cho. and that was done just fine. all the hormonal teenagers being hormonal teenagers in book 6 was pretty spot-on too. but what else did she actually write that was actual romance or relationships? most of it was "and X and Y hooked up six months ago offscreen."

Finding the idea of two male friends falling in love appealing, or finding the idea of those same men having sex hot does not negate their canon friendship. People writing stories to these effects does not negate their canon friendship.

If other people are enjoying something you aren't, it is not a personal affront to you. Pull up your big girl/boy britches, mind your own business and jog the fuck on.

What is fridge horror? (Besides my fridge if I don't notice when something goes bad and it's hiding behind something and starts to turn black and smell like a dead body?)

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm happy you're enjoying it, OP. :)

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this.

From how she was writing them, I was convinced Harry would end up with Luna. Make of that what you want.

She might have kept DD's sexuality under wraps out of habit in later books.

Also, I agree with AYRT that it's pretty hinted at (to me).

Nah, it never bothered me either, OP.

Co-worker's six year old daughter has leukaemia. :<

On the heals of my aunt just dying of cancer, another co-worker dying of cancer last year (and one who luckily got caught earlier enough and is fine), this is just so much suck. I can't imagine my kid being so young and so sick. And I don't even LIKE kids.

no and i think it's dishonest to label any professional as the worst [blank] ever. most disappointing or cliche i'd accept, but it requires some skill to get published and the worst romance author would not be able to achieve that, much less be well loved.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
OT but I'm always glad when I see successful people in fandom. Makes me feel less like I'm doomed to a life of unwashed hair, poverty and to die crushed under a pile of pointless fandom memoribilia and bobble heads.

Whoops, this was meant to reply to the anon above me, sorry orig-anon.

As opposed to every male/female friendship, which is completely chaste and has no shipping at all?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
If they went to college in the 90's then it's a massive difference.

Would you want to be a BNF?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Conversely, have you ever been one?

Re: Related to #2

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
She's far from "the worst". She sucks at it, yeah, as in tell-without-show, but tons of others writers are way worse.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Although for people to be afraid of being seen as gay is homophobia on their part really. Says more about them than the slashes.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
is it really?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That's even worse in actual films/shows. If there's a female character then they'll have romance with someone. Very few decent male/female friends in media.

No, it's not just you who thinks most of what she wrote was just fine. She's got several theme parks and a whole world of adoring, enthusiastic fans. What ten random people on the internet think is completely irrelevant, in comparison.

I'd kinda like to. I want to get real good at drawing and it's always been a pipe dream of mine to work in the animation industry and unless you go to an art school, building up a big social media following is vital to get entry. It'd be cool for people I admire to acknowledge my work, but I wouldn't want to deal with people scrutinizing my every move or god forbidden place their expectations on me.
