spoken like a homophobic troll.

why not just go read genfic and leave the slashers alone? (i don't really slash right now, but i am a shipper.)

Eh, if OP is referring to fans blatantly ignoring canon, then I can see where they're coming from. That feeling of "Wait...did we read the same story?" doesn't automatically make a person a homophobic troll.

I love slash fic. The majority of fics I read are pairing fics. Guess what, I also think Fandom needs to learn to stop fetishsizing gay people so much that they actually ruin the friendships of real people.

uh, I don't know how shipping two fictional male characters together is "actually ruining the friendships of real people"

hahahaha

OK, sure, I agree that if we're talking specifically about (1) RPF and (2) extreme tinhatting RPF, I agree that those people should knock it the hell off.

but also, you know, the original secret didn't actually say anything about that. and as a general statement about shipping (as opposed to tinhat RPF), i don't think it makes a lot of sense.

Hm, okay, but after reading the article, the headline sounds overdramatic and not accurate. The article states that they're still good friends despite the shippers. So yes, the shippers made things awkward for them, but they didn't "ruin" their friendship.

I think these types of things have more to do with ego than anything else. One person is perceived as more popular in fandom and therefore the other(s) take a serious ego hit and jealousy rears its ugly head.

Yes, of course, shipping fictional characters is exactly the same as fetishsizing people! /s

Are you also implying you're not like other girls (or guys) who are into slash, because your shipping and reading fic doesn't involve fetishsizing anyone, unlike everyone else who also reads fics and ships?

I'm fetishizing your strawman right now. Oh, baby.

Did you enjoy the way the OP confusingly moved the ball to talking about real people or...

Maybe try reading friendship fic instead of slash fic? Or starting a community for a friendship as opposed to a relationship. I think you'll find that many people do like the friendship, they just don't necessarily have a place to appreciate it vocally.

A lot of fandom trends have to do with finding like-minded people who will encourage each other and write fic or host communities or have discussions about characters in any way, shape or form they're interested in. This sadly also leads to things like shipper wars or gen fic vs ship fic, but it does allow for different appreciations of characters or pairings to flourish.
