Ignoring his personal life....the character design is fucking hideous. I don't understand why anyone could see that and think "Obviously this is someone that Jude Law could fall in love with. A bloated, albino 60 year old with the haircut of a 12 year old and the mustache of a child molester."

+1000

I don't give a rancid shit about his personal life, I just think the character design is awful and his ability to act has gone so far downhill that I'd rather see a wet piece of toast as Grindlewald.

he has Bart Simpson hair

He doesn't look old or bloated to me. The hair makes sense for a guy repeatedly described as "birdlike." The moustache is just like the character: gaudy and extra af.

I think it's a fantastic design! And fortunately quite a few talented fan artists agree.

Look, just because you like getting off to albino child molester looking fuckers, doesn't mean it is good design.

I... don't know what I expected from this exchange LOL

.....Get help.

I don't think I've ever seen "birdlike" being used to describe someone's hair. It usually refers to features or build.

What? You don't know all those birds with the spiky hair of a 12 year old in the 90s?

I feel so attacked right now.

Agreed. I'm not sure where "old" or "bloated" are coming from. I do think he looks creepy....which seems very appropriate since he is supposed to be an evil wizard.
I thought he was a good choice for the character, and I'm looking forward to his performance in the next movie :)

Apparently Yates has confirmed nothing will be explicitly gay anyway. I'm so shocked! /s

I agree with this utterly.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-01 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
THIS. God, they should have kept him using Graves appearance (Colin Farrell) then whatever the fuck he turned into at the end.

Exactly and wasn't it a minor plot-point that Grindelwald was supposed to be like ridiculously handsome and charming--which makes Dumbledore's (and a fair portion of the Wizarding world) vulnerability to him seem more reasonable?

I'd been imagining Grindelwald as a Nordic Adonis with someone like Alexander Sarsgard or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau playing him.

And instead we get Johnny Depp with his sallow skin and creepy mismatched eyes and the same schtik that he's been pulling for years.

And it's even more ridiculous considering that Jude Law is a very handsome man and the contrast between Dumbledore (who I always assumed was somewhat average looking when he was younger) and the supposedly "gorgeous" Grindelwald (who's played by an actor who was unconventionally attractive a decade ago and now can't even manage that much)

I think 90% of what you're describing is just Depp tbh
