Haven't seen this and now I won't. :-/ I hate pets - particularly cats - dying in shows. For one, I like animals, but for another, it feels like such a cliche way to conjure quick, cheap horror. It annoys me more with cats than dogs, because dogs usually get "hero" deaths where they go out barking/defending the humans, but the cat deaths are often comic relief, or done after really obvious close ups of the cat for all the show so you DON'T FORGET THERE IS A CAT. Any drama/horror that has lots of close ups of a pet cat means the cat is going to die. Fuuuck that. And no one ever mourns the pet, except maybe a comical side character for lolz ("haha crazy cat lady Janice is so upset that Mr. Fluffybutt disappeared").

I was really pissed that a certain season 2 of a certain Netflix show I just caught up on recently pulled the same cheap gag. Bleh to killing household pets for a little bit of drama.

This is why I always check doesthedogdie.com before watching something.

Exactly how I feel. I was going to eventually watch this. But now I won't.

That's why Alien is the best horror movie ever.

Not only was Alien a superb sci-fi horror, Jonesy makes it tops.

Also doesn't Jonesy make an appearance in Aliens 2? So not only does he live, he gets the best happy ending.

I still want to see this movie but I am going to find out when this happens so I can shut my eyes. But yes these are my feelings on it as well. Cats are treated as so much more disposable than dogs in the media, like who really cares if one dies yanno? It's just a cat. And I hate dog deaths too but at least in general the characters care about it, a lot, with cats it's typically only the owner and even then they're shown as being a bit nutty for caring so much.

And I hated that bit in s2 as well, didn't think it bugged me that much but until my bf pointed out to me that I'd complained about it at length over four days.

The cat’s death isn’t played for laughs or used to belittle its owner. In fact the creature regrets causing the owner pain and is shown trying to befriend the other cats after apologizing.

That'll make me feel better about but I'm still gonna close my eyes because I really don't like animal death(or young kids) in movies, and just to clarify I wasn't blaming the monster, I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't talk about a context I haven't seen.

I just want to avoid that moment and watch the rest of it.

The bulk of my rambling was more about media in general, not this particular case.

Close your eyes when the fish man roars and cat hisses back. Keep them shut until you hear running.

There's another scene after that where the dead cat is blurry in the background, but you won't see it if you focus on Giles and Elisa in the foreground.
