Nah. I was right in the middle of the trenches during all that nonsense, and the general consensus was that the "fourth episode" would render the prior three null and void as an Extended Mind Palace theory, either under Eurus' influence or the entire thing was taking place entirely in Sherlock's head while he was still struggling for life after Mary shot him. The "fourth episode" was just going to be about Sherlock coming back to life for real this time, and setting things back to rights.

Johnlock becoming canon was certainly on people's wishlists for it, but it wasn't at the core of the idea.

nayrt

setting things back to rights.

That's something I don't get. What needed to be set to rights? Why did the clock need to be rewound? Did people really hate the Magnussen episode or something? I ship Johnlock, but even then, I don't see how ~*it was all a dream!*~ would contribute anything. If it was about Mary, well, she died, so...? I like the fact that the characters aren't in the same place they were in the first two seasons. I don't think maintaining a status quo works well with the three-episodes-every-couple-of-years format.

da

They wanted Mary to be confirmed as evil, the marriage cancelled, and the baby fake or not John's. The fourth episode theory was started by TJLC shippers.

That's just being way too picky. I would take Johnlock in any form.

Mary doesn't need to be evil. While I wanted Johnlock to be endgame, I thought she added something to the show and the characters. I thought the way Sherlock came to respect her as a peer while there was still this sort of tension was interesting.

I usually have no interest in parenting fic or when TV shows add babies to the mix, but I find the idea of Sherlock and parenting both hilarious and adorable, so I'm entirely cool with Rosie Has Two Daddies.

One thing I didn't like, shipping wise, was John beating Sherlock, and that's not something to be swept under the rug. Other than that, I think Season 4 left the characters in a perfectly good place in terms of shipping.

Would that make The Abominable Bride some kind of Sherlock-ception dream-within-a-dream?
