I enjoyed the book but I was seriously meh on the miniseries for similar reasons. None of the characters had that... ~snap~ that the BBC P&P actors had for me.

Honestly, Jenna Coleman as Lydia was the most enjoyable part and I usually want to slap Lydia in any incarnation.

I can't remember the details because it's been a while since I read the book, but I wasn't wild about it. It was fascinating to me that an established author decided to publish fanfiction but iirc none of the characters felt really right? For someone who claimed to be a huge Austen fan, the whole thing felt kind of off.

But I agree Jenna Coleman made a great Lydia, who's even more irritating and awful (but also kind of funny) than in the books or any other previous adaptations.

I think you pinged on the one thing I didn't like about the book!

I liked the story and the writing, but you're right, they could have done a find and replace with names and I wouldn't have noticed, the writing wasn't very on point with Jane Austen's.

Yes, I think I might've enjoyed it more if it hadn't purported to be a sequel to Pride and Prejudice. It just didn't feel like one, it felt like a historical mystery with Austen's character names superimposed on original characters.

I hated the book with a fiery passion. There was zero suspense for me, but I adore this adaptation.

Didn't hate the book, but I thought it was horribly boring. The author endlessly showed off how much research she had done and forgot about the characters and moving the story forward at a decent pace. I like this series quite fine, not to the point of adoration but I enjoyed watching it. It was a huge improvement on the book to me. ;D Once you've accepted that no one can write these characters as well as Jane Austen and that this definitely is not (insert your own preferred version of P&P as a movie/series) here, this series can stand on its own very well. If you can't accept this, then the series is a big disappointment.

The mystery part was terrible and really obvious, but I did like Lydia and Wickham in this, and Lizzie on the few occasions she had something to do!

I like the actor in The Scapegoat.
