Re: What silly things stress you out?

When I go so often to a cafe/restaurant that the staff start talking more personally to me, or asking me if I want "the usual" (I pretty much order the same thing at all restaurants each time I go, once I figure out my favorite thing, that's slightly less crazy if I disclaim I'm vegetarian so my menu is usually smaller than the full menu).

I don't like being personally acknowledged in a store or restaurant, it makes grabbing a sandwich during my lunch break a thing. I'd rather be a faceless nobody and get polite but impersonal customer service. idk like maybe they judge me for coming too often, or know me as the girl with the hair/whatever who always orders the whatever. I don't want to be known!

Omg are you me? Like, I know it's 'nice' that they remember me, but I feel like I'm being judged for being there often enough that they DO remember me.

Just serve me politely and pretend like we've never met, please. .__.

ayrt

I literally haven't been to my favorite cafe in like a week and a half because of this, and I refuse to go more than once every two weeks even though it's right beside my work. The staff are all really friendly and smile and chat when I come in. I'm sure they don't hate me, I don't hate them, I like them and think they are friendly people. I still need them to not make me a part of their lives. D:

I feel the same way, but this happens to me in the library of all places. Everybody knows me, including the new staff. They see my face and go get my holds or tell me about the new releases that just came in that I might like. If a book I like is slated to be taken out of circulation and put on sale, they hold it for me in case I want to buy it. I know it's very stupid and whiny to complain about people who are being so friendly and going out of their way to help me, but it's a big library in a big city and I look pretty unremarkable, so how the hell do they know me on sight? Is it because I buy a shitload of brownies during the fundraisers or something?

At the library I work at, we're encouraged to address customers by name if we know them, and encouraged to learn customers names. I hate that as a customer, but the higher ups think it's all good customer service. Be engaging! Tell them about a library service they didn't know about! Recommend something to them!

D: Oh god this is the WORST!

There's a little tiny town in Oklahoma and once or twice each year I end up spending about a week there for work. They've got one single restaurant which is like this ancient truck stop diner place. I'm pretty sure the entire joint is run by a husband and wife and their daughter as the only waitress.

Every. Fucking. Time. They remember who I am and ask if I'm going to have my "usual". And I mean it's really sweet and nice and I appreciate it. But goddamn I hate it so much. I just want to be anonymous. ;_;

lmao

not be mean to those genuinely nice folks, but you're probably one of the more exciting things to happen (John, Joe, and Tom are ALWAYS there, but you, YOU are brand new, damn right I'm gonna remember you and how you like your coffee -- especially if you're good looking, and you show up every year, shit I might even give you a slice of pie on the house).

But I get it.

I'm the same way. It's why I can never live in a small town.

Same. Sometimes I mix up which store I go to so I don't get clocked as a "regular."

YES.

I feel this way about buying sandwiches at the corner store. I'm fine with people knowing me and what I generally like, but going too often makes me feel like they must think I can't cook for myself and my family, I feel angry, judged, and ashamed.

When I was 20 I hated this. Now I love it--I just feel so unconnected to the rest of the world, so it makes me happy when somebody acknowledges my existence.

The one time I really feel judged is when I call a taxi because I missed the last bus. I worry about how wasteful it looks...well, how wasteful it is.
