I think the kids are there mainly to sell dinosaur merch to kids

I don't mind the kids in JP1 and the girl in JP2 is also fine, 3 and up and I find them annoying tbh. The kid in three is okay but the two boys in JW are irritating.

Will remain to be seen if I like the kid in the next JW movie.

This is pretty much my opinion of all the kids too.

The whole subplot with the kids in JW was so awful I immediately ignored it in favor of headcanon about Claire being estranged from her family bc she's a happily childfree Professional Aunt and they're too baby focused to understand that.

I shall too live in this world, because it's much more preferable to me. And she was the only human character I liked, lol.

SA

Also in my world, the worst fight the Avengers have is who forgot to fill the coffeemaker and what movie they watch next.

I liked the JW kids, but the stuff around it about how of course she wants to be a parent was awful. So I just imagine she doesn't mind kids per say and doesn't mind being an aunt, but still doesn't want kids of her own.

Yeah I didn't overly have a problem with any of the JP/JW kids to be honest, but the fact that the JW kids' parents expected Claire to drop her work the entire time the kids were at the park and that line about her eventually having kids of her own just got me the wrong way.

I mean, she's working. She made arrangements so that they weren't unsupervised and could take advantage of the better parts of the park.

Yup. Didn't bother me that they didn't understand she had to work, because some parents really don't get that not everyone can drop everything for their kids. It bothered me that they were portrayed as right.

To be fair, the JW kids' parents were going through what looked like an ugly divorce. It wasn't like they dumped their kids on Claire for shits and grins. It wouldn't be unreasonable to hope that your sister would spend more time with the nephews she doesn't see very often even under ordinary circumstances, but during a family crisis? Yeah.

That said, I think the film was crap about Claire's job and telegraphed some ridiculously archaic notions about women who prefer careers to having babies.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay but family crisis or not, this was a huge career event and they should have known she couldn't just drop her job just because of that. The fact they expected her to because she was a woman was awful.

Everyone seems to take the scene where Claire stares at a mom and kid as a "turning point in which she realizes yes she _does_ in fact want a family." while I'm over here thinking she went "....OHSHITTHEKIDSITOTALLYFORGOTABOUTTHEMFUCK!"

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly never got the impression that Claire totally realized she wanted kids during the course of the movie and definitely intends to have some. More like she A) bonded with her nephews and became less awkward with them, B) made peace with her role as a aunt, and C) realized her family (i.e. the people she already has, not necessarily hypothetical future kids) are important to her due to almost dying.

Also, it seemed to me that the boys kind of got dumped on here at a time that wasn't particularly convenient for her (weren't the parents getting a divorce or something?) In other words, it wasn't just Claire being a workaholic. Maybe she did't make much effort to clear her schedule, but who knows how far out this was planned for.

I don't know what the movie intended to say, but taking everything at face value, I feel like saying Claire wants kids now is reading too much into it.

there are so many movies and shows you can say this about.

It's always somewhat disappointing when they don't get eaten.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, the kid from 3 was fucking hardcore. Besides what's shown in the movie I had the junior novelization of the movie and a tie-in book about what he went through from the time he got stranded to the time he gets found, and that always stuck with me despite its dubious canonicity.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Right? I mean, kid collected T-Rex pee. That's... not an easy feat.

The only time I've not minded the kids is in Jurassic World. They were less annoying than all the Jurassic Park ones.
