110. Personally, I'm a little upset. But it's still fun to think about.

115. No. I think you're the odd one out for a reason. Have you ever thought maybe you're taking what should be your escapism just a little too seriously? There's nothing wrong with appreciating the depth of a story, but to criticize those who simply just want to wave a lightsaber around and control other people's minds using the Force is just as childish as them wanting to do those things. (For the record, I like Star Wars because it's a deep universe with unlimited possibilities, and a lot of interesting history. Seriously, anyone who just watched the movies is missing out.)

120. LOL.

127. WERD. Even though I'm guilty of being inclined to stay away from a series because of the people in the fandom. If I truly love something, though, no amount of stupidity will make me stop enjoying it--it'll just make me not give it as fair of a chance as it probably deserves. The only thing I did give a fair chance was Lord of the Rings, and I was bored to tears regardless of what everyone else thought.

130. In all honesty, I'd be pissed if you were using it to pretend to be another person, but not if you were just posting fic and using the journal to thank people. Your friends probably wouldn't believe you if you became some kind of BNF, though!

131. Just make sure to pick a Pokémon that isn't so obscure, and stay away from the whole fursuit look--meaning no masks or anything. I doubt anyone would call you a fur if it's a recognizable Pokémon anyway.

148. Oops. Spoiled self. xD But I don't understand how anyone could hate her, either. She's pretty likeable, at least as far as I've gotten. (I think what you quoted is probably the equivalent to jealous fangirls, anyway. They like the male characters around her so they automatically hate her because of it.)

150. Repeat, I think? But I'm the same way. Maybe when it comes back I'll be more into it, but for now.. Eh.

159. I recognize Milla from Psychonauts, Guybrush from Monkey Island and Zanthia from Hand of Fate and Mingchao from Et Cetera? I'm afraid the other one is beyond me.

115 - See, I like SW (only the movies, though, I'm not that interested in it otherwise), but I've never seen any traces of real depth or profoundness in them. To me, they're pretty much simple, fun escapism, like a fairy tale in space or something.

127 - Man, and I thought I was the only one. I'm surrounded by LotR fanatics, so even though I've never been interested in it, I finally gave in and tried to read it, but it was just horribly, painfully boring. It was the first movie that made me get, just a little bit, why people were so into it. Sadly I found the following movies criminally boring.

115. The depth is totally in the Extended Universe. But you have to admit, even inside the movies, you can tell it is an expansive world with less than just the main characters in mind. The movies are only a single conflict in the universe--just a small part of a big thing. The races of aliens, planets, ideas and political structure are thought out beyond what the movies reveal. For what they're worth, though, the movies pretty much are just a fairy tale in space.

127. You're definitely not alone. I really never understood how anyone could call those books good--of the chapter I got through, 90% of it was describing nothing.

115 - Ah, I meant "depth" as in the complexity and philosophical meditations and beautiful portraits of human nature and whatnot, that the OP claims SW has. The world itself is definitely open for exploration if one is so inclined, but I can't see anything particularly complex and philosophical in the movies themselves.

127 - Eeexactly. And it's not that I'm averse to the topic per se, I love heroic epic stuff, I wrote my MA thesis on Beowulf and Norse heroes, etc. But LotR is just boring and uninteresting. It's like, it's way too immersed in itself to be enjoyable, for me anyway.

admittedly, as i said in another comment, you have to watch between the frames to a certain degree. i think i'm predisposed to seeing star wars in a more meaningful light as i came into the fandom after playing KOTOR I & II, and obsidian [and bioware, to a lesser extent] certainly has a way with bringing meaning and characterization to a half-formed story.

no, the stupid is in the extended universe, as star wars slowly devolves from an eloquent modern mythology to the poor man's star trek. not that there isn't anything of quality, but some of the EU material is so meaningless it's literally painful.

also, fairy tales have depth. mythological fables have depth. these are the kinds of stories human civilization has been shaped by for thousands of years.

Hostile much? That's why I can't really respect your opinion.

My EU, I'm reaching more towards Knights of the Old Republic, some of the shorter stories of side characters, rather than further generations of characters, like Han and Leia's kids and stuff.

I never said fairy tales lacked depth. I said "Star Wars is just a fairy tale in space." It has the same depth, but the biggest difference that probably makes it more interesting for adults is the space aspect. Sorry if you didn't glean that off of my initial response.

my secret is hostile, but i'm actually not trying to be hostile in my comments. if it comes off that way, it's not the way it was intended. i just meant to clarify that the universal embrace [or at least begrudging respect] of ALL canon, including the blatantly ridiculous parts of the EU is part of the problem i have with the fandom. i mean, seriously, aliens from another galaxy? a new sith order lead by a guy in a sentient krayt dragon suit?

woah, i think i've spent one too many hours on wookieepedia.

I agree, that pretty much sums it up.
