I have not come across people specifically liking a character just because they like another character the actor plays. But I do agree with other OPs here that some actors exhibit a charisma that translates over different roles and draws people in, regardless of the actual likeability of the characters.

I have seen the opposite though (kind of) where a person will hate an actor just because of a character they play ie; if they play a serial killer, they must be awful IRL.

With Sebastian Stan, I haven't seen I Tonya but I hear his character is immensely unlikeable. I'll still see the film because I like him as an actor and can appreciate his work.

I think he did a good job showing his character was human. A piece of crap much of the time, but there were some genuinely sweet moments between Jeff and Tonya, rare as they were.
