Are there any characters that are frequently hated that you love?

Gwen Cooper from Torchwood. I admit she isn't perfect, but I don't think she deserves so many bashing fics.

I loved Gwen. She was one of my favourites. :(

I didn't LOVE him because he wasn't around long, but I wanted to protect Sam from The Walking Dead. I can't stand how the fandom was towards him. He was just a little kid!

I love Kylo Ren, who gets a lot of hate. And I loved Rose, who gets a huge ton of hate.

Marvel villains who aren't Loki or Thanos get hate. I love Ronan, Pierce, Kaecilius, and Dormammu.

I really liked Dawn on Buffy. She gets way too much hate.

I like Lily from HIMYM. Partially because Allison Hannigan is hot. But I honestly think she's an interesting character.

Valkyrie is great. Odin is great. Jane is great.

Dawn was the first character who popped into my head. I'm not a bug Dawn cheerleader, but I liked her fine. I had only just started watching Buffy the season before and I didn't feel like I had the grounds to be critical of Dawn's addition.

I liked the idea of her. And both Buffy's annoyance with and her protectiveness of Dawn hit a lot of buttons for me. And I related to Dawn at times. Honestly the only main character on that show I've ever hated is Xander.

I really liked Dawn on Buffy.

I feel like Dawn and Harry Potter in book 5 both get judged for the same thing: normal teenagers who go through horrible stuff and react exactly as a normal person would react.

Yes, precisely!

In fact, I've noticed this with a lot of teenage and kid characters.

Is Lily hated? She was awesome!

Lily is the most hated HIMYM character (I think, maybe Ted beats her?). She gets a ton of hate. She's complex. She does some not good things. But that just makes her more interesting to me. She's flawed. She grows.

Really? That just seems nuts to me. Everyone I've ever talked to irl really liked her. She's definitely one of the most complex characters, and she does fuck up sometimes, but it's not like any of the shit she does is anywhere near the same level of the crap Ted or Barney do. Even Robin is more consistently "bad" than Lily.

I love Kylo and I love Rose. I sort of understand why people hate Kylo (because people are only too happy to explain it) but hating Rose just makes no sense.

Rose is hated because she was part of an "unnecessary" plotline. Or because she gets in the way of a popular slash ship. Or, if she's getting in the way of someone's favorite het ship, she's anti-black (because she tazed Finn).

Is she hated? I love her.

She's been hated for 150 years by people who are incapable of grasping the point LMA was trying to make when she sank the Jo/Laurie ship, and by people who have a bitter personal grudge against anyone who fits the description of "conventionally feminine, artsy girl with good social skills and a decent fashion sense"

I love her too, though I didn't when I first read the book at about 12.

Mado from Tokyo Ghoul gets so much hate. I thought he was awesome. An absolute asshole, but still awesome.

Shinji Ikari. No, he's not perfect and yes, he's done some fucked up shit, but I like him.

Becky on Supernatural. I know she's creepy and what she did to Sam was super fucked up, but I liked her.

Bela Talbot on Supernatural. Sure, she wasn't perfect, but I loved (still love) her.

Scott McCall on Teen Wolf, he wasn't my absolute favourite but I liked him and liked his good heart. But man do people hate him.

Bela Talbot on Supernatual, she was everything I loved in a Catwoman-type character, and while she was a piece of work her backstory did make me feel bad at how her life turned out. It could have been different yanno? I'd still love to see her come back as a demon tbh, that would be so much fun.

Anna on Supernatural, I liked the whole fallen angel shtick and I would have really liked to have her and Castiel running around as a pair trying to unbalance heaven's plans. It wasn't meant to be sadly and she got brought back to be a terminator and get killed. The backstory on Mary that ep was really awesome though so I don't hate the entirety of it.

Jane Foster. I love nerdy science ladies a lot and I thought she was great, I was happy for her to be on space adventures with Thor and Co because her geeking out in Asgard was adorable. The fandom thought she was The Worst thing however.
