What are movies or series you love, but don't consider fandom-y material?

Example: John Wick for me, I love the world and atmosphere but there's no strong characters to build on for me to dig in and write plotty fic about.

Atomic Blonde.

Then again, it's based off of a graphic novel, so..maybe?

Disney's animated films.

All of them as a whole universe? Or every film individually? Are some more fandomable than others?

All of them, period. It feels as wrong to me as Postman Pat fanfic would.

True...it makes me wish Princess Academy came to fruition.

The Disney kink meme was one of the best and funniest times I've ever had in fandom. Highly recommended!

Lord of the Rings was a big obsession for me but I really just watched the movies repeatedly and listened to the score for months straight.

Even series that don't inspire fanfiction themselves still make excellent AU settings

In fact, there might be a relationship between those two things now that I think about it

For me, Harry Potter. I just can never get into the Fandom. I don't if there is just too much or what.

I've always loved the book The Little Prince but the idea of fanfic for it makes me want to curl up in a ball and die.

(I didn't even watch the movie on Netflix though I might change my mind about that.)

Well, not all fanfic has to be rated anything more than G.

Fanfic of the Little Prince exploring the world with his Fox friend and planting flowers could be a thing.

The animated series of The Little Prince is essentially Little Prince fanfic. (If more...procedural than a lot of fic.) Definitely not as melancholy as the book:

As far as fic goes, most, TBH. I have plotbunnies here and there, but honestly, I think my glory days of fanfic have come more or less to a head, at least for new fandoms.

As far as meta goes... I'd say 30 Rock? Not that it really has a fandom anyway. But while it's very good, half the stories are so out there and implausible that it makes it hard to discuss. It's just a fun show.

I also have a lot of books I like, but there isn't enough traction to write fic for them or engage in meta about them.

Really? Kinda curious about that. I feel like most books I read I could write at least some meta about.

Most sitcoms are like that for me. They may have a lot of fans, but the fanishness and fandom community. Plus, it's largely impossible to write good fan fiction for them (humor that works in prose and in performance isn't the same).

Star Wars.

I find the movies great fun and think they're enjoyable, but I do not care one bit about poking into the fandom. I do like the idea of a few ships but again, nothing that makes me crave fic or anything I'm die-hard over. And the universe doesn't interest me enough to consume any of the shows/books either, I just stick to the movies.

Galavant was utterly delightful but not something I was interested into searching out fandom for.

I really enjoyed LOTR (both the books/movies) but don't feel the need to read fanfic or get involved in fandom at all.

Anything I don't have a ship in. I'm just generally not a big gen fic reader.

ATLA.

I don’t particularly ship anything from it so shippy stuff is out of the question. And I don’t care to read gen stuff for it because the series itself is already damn satisfying in that regard.

Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows, but I don't really ship (well, maybe JJ/Will a little), and i don't really feel the need to do anything fandomy with it.

Most podcasts. There are fandoms for quite a few of them but I was never interested in any of them (in some cases actively averse to them, too). (Coincidentally, those that had bigger fandoms were also the ones I dropped after a while because they started to annoy me. No clue if there's a connection though.)

Oh man, I feel this on a personal level. So many podcasts I love have no fandom at all. :(

Re: Inspired by #1

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Basically all of them. I can't hop into a fandom for something that's got characters played by actors. I can only ship in video games for some reason. Movies and TV shows? Nah.
