(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 01:04 am (UTC)(link)I do have a bit of a disconnect when it comes to creators who died before I was even born. Like, gayness isn't the only thing that would offend or upset them but they are products of a different time. We don't live in that time now and we couldn't really emulate it. I find people who are upset that Tolkien wouldn't approve of gay relationships are just upset because they don't approve. They so conveniently forget a lot of the other stuff that's aged badly because that's not the thing they actually care about so it's easy to ignore the argument.
It's a little harder when the author is actually still alive, although then I can see how the author is behaving to judge for myself if I want to honor their wishes or not.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 09:08 am (UTC)(link)I was mostly commenting on what other people are saying. That they insist he wouldn't approve and therefore it is okay to bludgeon fans on m/m or f/f pairings for 'doing it wrong'.
