Because if they meant "are any cishet male characters who are of eligible shipping age range and involved in canon heterosexual ships or shipteases or romance, not sexist jerks?" then maybe you have a question, but you know, that is a very different question from "any male characters, gay, trans, alien, child, etc etc"

FIRST OF ALL, can alien beings meaningfully be described in terms of human genders

Non-sexist and/or non-jerk ( with any sexuality, sexual organs and from any species) please rec me your characters, the point was that I want to know :)

Maybe Henry Townshend from Silent Hill 4? You don't exactly see the best side of him I don't remember him doing anything jerk-like or sexist. (Not saying the game is free from sexism though.)

Tetsuo Takahashi from Interviews with Monster Girls isn't a jerk and doesn't seem too sexist.

And Gus from Psych, since I have an icon for him. Not a jerk and I don't remember him being sexist, but I didn't watch every episode so there may be some things I'm forgetting.

Thank you, I’ve actually been thinking about watching Psyche so that’s shifted further up my list. I’ve seen the film adaptation of silent hill, but I don’t really game myself so I’m not sure about game canon but still, thank you for the rec, it’s nice just knowing someone else can think of some. I don’t think I know Interviews with Monster Girls but should I ever come across it, I’ll remember it has him in its favour.

DA

Is my reading comprehension switched off today or is this borderline word salad?

Ok I just want to say I’m not even defining male in any way here. They don’t have to be Cis, they don’t have to be het and they don’t have to be human and it doesn’t even have to be in the context of romance. You can be sexist to someone you are not sexually or romantically attracted to. You can be an ass to people without good reason when you aren’t interested in them.

The point was, it got me thinking how a LOT of characters we are supposed to root for are at least on some level a jerk/how much casual sexism there is involving these characters to the point that I cannot think of a character off the top of my head that hasn’t at some point been a jerk when it’s uncalled for or been casually sexist or both at the same time. And yet, the characters that I can think of off the top of my head, are usually the most popular/the ones the writers want us to root for.

ETA: and as someone who was a child, had childhood siblings, had childhood friends and is currently in bed after spending the day trying to get two children to play nicely, I’m casting my vote for kids can be jerks too and they don’t care who knows it.
