Getting older sucks esp in the US

I've had persistent pain in my shoulder but I know it is probably just strain. No point spending money to just go to the doctor so they can tell me to rest it.

I get hurt at work so often and often that shit just lingers forever. I hurt my elbow last year and it still fucking hurts, and I know I'm either gonna go in and drop a thousand fucking dollars on xrays and stuff for them to tell me not to use it so much. I can't just take months off work to let shit heal properly.

Canadian here. I don't know how Americans can handle it. I don't mean it in a smug way, and I understand why it's difficult to implement socialized medicine in the US political climate. Your medical system just seems so damn unfair.

American here and yes, it sucks. Husband lost his job and health insurance just before I had a follow up scan after a mammogram. The radiologist said there was a dark spot and just wanted to make sure it was OK. We sat on the couch and cried, wondering if we could afford to pay out of pocket for the follow up mammogram or if we should put it off, or if we were making a mistake to put it off because what if it's cancer?

Tl;dr - I'm fine, health insurance only just covered it. But our health care system is broken. Nobody should have to consider delaying or skipping important preventative health visits or testing because they're worried about the cost.
