Fandom Habits You Have

What weird fandom habits do you have? Maybe how you read fic? Or engage with people? Or draw art? Or whatever.

I feel like if I’m posting fic, even to my own journal, I have to use an icon of that character, ship or fandom to the point I’ve uploaded icons to use to post a fic then probably never used them again then deleted them months/years later.

if I comment here, I keep that comment open in a new tab (sometimes this leads to multiple tabs if I have a lot to comment on that day) and obsessively refresh to see if anyone responds to what I've said. Sadly, since my time-zone is such that I'm usually going to bed when these come out, I rarely get to see answers in time to really get a conversation going. (Well, that and mostly nobody answers). This is even if I post something super trivial like answering a question about what I'll be doing with my weekend or ... yeah, even this one ;)

I only read specific fandoms on PC vs mobile. I also check the fandoms I read regularly in a very specific order.

Save all the fic, always.

Towards the end of the LJ era, I also used to copy comment exchanges I found particularly funny or insightful and collect them in a text document.

I can't get into fandoms right away. My biggest period of obsession with a fandom will happen 3-5 years after I first read or watch it.

If a character's name scans I'll make up something to the tune of the Davy Crockett theme. Like "Harry, Harry Potter, the famous boy who lived" or "Peggy, Peggy Carter, badass agent of SHIELD"

If I read a fic, I always comment on it and find something nice to say. And if someone comments on my fic, I always respond even if it's just a 'thank you'.

I'm obsessed with blog entry-written 'Let's Play's that focus on nearly every detail of a game. More specifically: on Final Fantasy X; and evem more specifically: the details of each character and how something relates to them. That game has been in my life for sooo long and I am still learning new things about it. Mintywolf has one of my fav 'Let's Play' blogs.

Well, he's not still alive but I thought Billy Graham died about 20 years before he actually did.

This is possibly a bit obscure and I hate putting these things out there to the universe but since I already did, a few weeks ago I spent a decent hour swearing blind that John Challis had died a while back. I have no idea where I got that from. Thankfully I was wrong.

I do remember being surprised that Roger Moore had only just died last year, because I'd thought he was dead for ages. Ditto Zsa Zsa Gabor a couple years back.

I periodically check whether they are both alive.

a little off topic but I was over at a friend's house last month and she wanted to watch Futurama and they had Leonard Nimoy's head in a jar and I was all "this is a lot less funny now that he died" and my friend goes "Leonard Nimoy died?!" and she wasn't kidding.

Richard Chamberlain. I'm not sure why, may be I keep confusion him with a different t actor from that generation?

Also a lot of musicians from the 50s/60s. I'm always surprised when I actually see they don't just still live, they're even still touring.

I think it's very surprising that Keith Richards and Shane MacGowan are still alive despite everything but it goes to show how much substance abuse some bodies can take, I guess.

Because it got me thinking... non-sexist jerk male characters? Are there any? Any character that have redeemed themselves? Where do you draw the line with a character you otherwise like?

egg update

So, yesterday I managed my goal of baking a massive cake using an ostrich egg; got finished backing quite late, so I saved icing and eating for today and can now report:

1) it is not easy to get into an ostrich egg if you want to separate white nad yolk - sawing into it was kiiiinda like trying to saw through a china mug. But - after quite some time and frustration - I managed!
2) so very very very VERY much egg, and so VERY much yolk. Beating it was a super voluminous affair. made two large cakes, one fully dark chocolate, one a vanilla-sponge/chocolate swirl affair.
3) got finished backing late, so saved icing and eating for today. decided to layer both cakes together in an extravaganza of buttercream, and festoon with coconut and pine-nuts.
4) taste is pretty much indistinguishable from a cake made with hen's eggs, BUT:
5) texture is different - extremely dense, but not dry, in other words PERFECTLY amazing.

I'm overall extremely pleased with how it all turned out, and as a bonus, my massive cold did retreat enough for me to enjoy things!

Getting older sucks esp in the US

I've had persistent pain in my shoulder but I know it is probably just strain. No point spending money to just go to the doctor so they can tell me to rest it.
