I'll bite. I don't think it's race.

...or, like, even considering race, I don't understand how the responses turned out like they did. I mean, it's not like white-lead films don't flop, there's just more of them. But I loathed Frozen, it was so obviously a tonal mish-mash of different drafts and messy sloppy worldbuilding. And Moana actually did really well despite being a POC lead movie. So...honestly, toss the Moana comparison out entirely, I still want to know how frozen ended up the phenomenon that it did.

I get that sometimes this shit is just luck and lightning strikes with something people were waiting for (the repression/abuse themes, the sister story, the anti-love-interest princess movie) but...still, man.
