I never read the book and after about the first two thirds, it lost me.

I still defend it because non-white casting didn't make the movie bad, really ugly visual CGI choices and a confusing story did.

I have no problem with them casting African American actors but Meg is the only heroine I EVER saw in kids' books who is specifically described (at least in the first book) as not being pretty. I wasn't any better looking as a kid than now and that meant a lot to me, so of course they have this beautiful little girl in the movie.

That's exactly how I felt about the casting for Hermione at first. I related to her so much, and I wanted an actress who looked like the book character. I stopped caring after a while, though. Hollywood is probably never going to change in that regard.

I have issues with Meg's actress. I give zero fucks that they cast a POC. I just wish she could act.

Same. I was entertained, but I think the movie fell short because of multiple screenwriting choices that didn't make sense and didn't really pay off when needed.

They cut Aunt Beast?? She was one of my favorite parts of the book. D:

Mine too! I'm kinda happy I didn't see the movie now.

yeah, Aunt Beast was cool. they cut a lot of stuff out I liked in the book. Poop.

This secret is also how I learned that Aunt Beast got cut. Now I'm glad I didn't bother seeing the film, and I'm gonna keep it that way.

How the fuck do you cut Aunt Beast?!?
dinogrrl: GPG is not amused. (GPG is not amused)

Well I was iffy about seeing it in theaters before, but now that you say Aunt Beast isn't in it...bah.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-12 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. I love the book, but I haven't re-read it in a long time and I don't remember who Aunt Beast is.

But I agree with the rest of the secret.
