Exactly.

Which is why I write fic for the drawer now. If I'm being brutally honest, it's not worth spending the extra time to edit up a rough draft of a 100,000+ word fic anymore that took me a few months to write when if I'd just posted it as an "imagine", it would have gotten a lot more feedback. I've always written for myself, so I will always be writing, but posting? Nope, or at least, until the general fandom winds shift again to appreciate effort.

NAYRT—what fandoms are you in that these are so common? Maybe I just don’t follow a lot of people who post them? Idk.

Cynical thought: 1. write your draft for the fic that you want to write. 2. Post an imagine of the plot on Tumblr. 3. If it gets popular say "hey I'm totally gonna write this fic now" and ride the popularity of the Tumblr post as you polish and publish the chapters.
