In adaptation or a reboot or something similar, how much original canon do you want, do you expect, or would disappoint you if it wasn't there?

I prefer relatively faithful adaptions. I don't mind little changes. But I want an adaption to stick to the themes and to the heart of the original. And I want the characters to be the ones I know from the original.

That is so hard to say. Depends on what they change, to be honest.

Good adaptations that change a lot: Minority Report, Forrest Gump, and Snowpiercer.

Bad adaptations that change a lot: I Am Legend, How The Grinch Stole Christmas (live action one), and World War Z.

I don't mind if movies change a lot as long as they don't change the core of the story or if they do, they do it well.

I think more important than recreating exact stories or visuals - understanding what made those stories and visuals to the audience in the first place and trying to stay true to that is the most important thing in an adaption. Other than that, I want it to be firmly connected to the original canon, but if it must diverge or change things, it can definitely earn that by staying true to the themes.

IMO the Series of Unfortunate Events Netflix show has been walking this line well.

Honestly, that's going to vary depending on the canon. I'm not a purist by any means, and most of the time I'm fairly happy if the spirit of the original material is retained. But at the same time, I don't like changes that feel sort of pointless or gimmicky. For example, the 2005 Pride and Prejudice adaptation where the screenwriter modernized a lot of Jane Austen's language? I hated that with a passion. :(
