As long as you wrote it well, that's fine with me, since I'm also there for the non-canon OTP.

Well written being:
- crazed canon character still adheres to main canon ways, and you begin a slow spiral/slowly reveal the madness that maybe stems from some scenes in canon (i.e. they're always nice but the quickly and briefly snap at someone, and that has happened at least once or twice in canon)

My biggest issue with these is that character C (non canon OTP) often becomes a shoulder for B to cry on or shield themselves from A. I don't know why, but it bugs me. But that might be ssomeeone else's preferr3d trope (H/C).

I GENERALLY ignore the canon relationship (I pretend it didn't happen/ it didn't last, etc.). However, it sounds like the deranged character is a major part of your plot?
