I prefer the old artstyle and I especially hate what happened to Farangis. The fuck is that "outfit"? This is especially ironic because I keep seeing this post going around about how the female FMA characters are so sensibly and flawlessly designed and their boobs move realistically because A WOMAN designed them and all I can think of is Farangis' shitty design and shrug. (It seems to be inspired by one of the newer cover artworks for the novels but still. It's just bad.)

At least my favourite character (Narsus) didn't actually change all that much. I won't be following the series anymore though because I'm petty and my NOTP became canon and even if the series will take ages to get there if it even does at all, it's a huge Do Not Want for me.

I don't know about her adaptation of this one (did she do a full one or just the character designs?) but they ARE pretty realistic in FMA.

On the other other hand, she did say she likes women to have big boobs (specifically "Men should be buff! Women should be vavoom!")

It's less the boobs themselves and more how she's dressed: http://randomc.net/image/Arslan%20Senki/Arslan%20Senki%20-%2021%20-%20Large%2007.jpg

Keep in mind that she's both a priestess and a fighter so these "clothes" don't make any sense at all.

ffs. Designed for wardrobe malfunction.

If her characters ever had nipples, those would be showing

... not without double-sided tape and boob-glue.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-15 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
She must use a lot of tape to keep all that in place.

what NOTP?

(Narsus is my fav too, but I just can't without Shiozawa's voice.)

Narsus and Alfarīd(I had to copy the name from the Wiki because I can never remember it) apparently got engaged in the novels shortly before an even bigger spoiler that made me reconsider continuing to follow the series.

oh, hm.

Years ago, my anime mentor sold me on Narsus->Daryoon almost a year before I'd even seen the canon, so I can't really get behind Narsus and Alfarīd either.

Ha, yeah, that's my preferred ship (if onesided) as well.

I just can't get behind a pairing between a girl who is basically obsessed with the older man for saving her, keeps proclaiming him her true love and him in turn basically ignoring her... until he suddenly out of the nowhere gets engaged to her. Huh.

it reminds me a little of Furuba, with how Ayame was married off to his shop assistant (can't think of her name, began with M?) when just pairing him with Shigure or Hatori would have made so much more sense.

I never followed Furuba that far because I was irritated at the "totally planned from the start" reveal that Akito was female and I dropped it.
I didn't really buy that it was planned from the start. I got the impression that the mangaka got a sudden surge of "ew gay" feelings halfway through which led to the gender change and pairing off everyone in neat little het relationships would fit in with that quite well. No clue if there's any truth in it and only the mangaka knows but that's what it felt like to me.

Yeah, I had the same sort of feeling. (I kept up with manga summaries after watching the anime.)

Especially since Farangis' outfit was so PRACTICAL in the original OVA. She had PANTS and actual armor!

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. I don't mind most of the redesigns because even if they're different, they're not really any better or worse, that just comes down to a matter of taste.
But this outfit? Clearly worse.

It's hard for me to get over the art style, though I do like this one-- it really isn't how I was used to the art being. (And Farangis, oh man-- I loved her outfit, it was very amano-esque.)

Yes, the art style was probably dated for that time, but I love how classic it looked, and I will ocassionally go back and look at the art and it will just fill me with all sorts of nostalgia--

Though I have no beef with the anime, and I gave the manga a shot-- I really couldn't get into this verison of Arslan Senki, and I guess I've made my own personal peace with my own inability to really enjoy it.

I loved the OVAs from the 90s and have wanted to get into this, but I miss the old art style as well. And Farengis was my favorite character, so now I am even mkre hesitant. But...Arslan Senki reboot!
