They certainly seem more petty to go out of their way to write that shit.

Black Panther stan here btw, don't care for either Tony or Cap. But making fic that bashes a character you dislike or elevates a character you like is just so childish and petty.

AGREED!

Can't agree. This is the motivation for most fanfic, isn't it?

I should clarify by the second part, I mean elevates a character at the specific expense of another. Not quite the same as outright bashfic, it's a subtler variation.

Ah, okay, I see your point, and you/re right. The bashfics generally are, "Look at how shitty Character A is compared to the shining paragon that is Character B!"

Okay, but writing Team Steve or Team Tony fic isn't necessarily elevating one character at the expense of another. It's writing a fic with a narrative that agrees with one side of an in-universe conflict over the other, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. It's functionally no different than writing any other fic where one side is presented as the protagonists and the other as the antagonists. It only even merits a tag because it's a contentious topic in fandom, and the sort of thing that's not going to be enjoyable to someone who's passionately on the other side of the conflict, and may not be enjoyable to everyone who's neutral.

I wouldn't know, I don't read them. Still seems petty to do in general.

Must be pretty tedious in your neck of the woods if no one ever takes sides in conflicts that are clearly designed for side-taking.

Okay, weirdly defensive anon.

What a petty response.

Tbh, I'm an avid reader of Team Iron Man fic and I'd say at least half of the stories dip their toes (or dive headfirst) into the bashing pool. That's how I like them, so it's fine with me, but I can understand why others would find it irritating.

(What I don't understand is why they can't simply avoid fics with that tag if they dislike them so much, but that's a different subject.)
