Livejournal/Dreamwidth

Who here actually still uses Livejournal and/or Dreamwidth, outside of FS? Does anyone use it for fandom?

Re: Livejournal/Dreamwidth

(Anonymous) 2018-04-27 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I use both. I do some fandom stuff on there, but not as much as I used to. Not enough fandom people around.

Nah, I never had a livejournal and I made a dreamwidth exclusively for f!s which I ditched a few years back.

I possibly would, but I'm only "internetting" by smartphone, so typing is a hassle.

I stopped using and crossposting to LJ when the TOS changed.

I use Dreamwidth for a number of fannish events (primarily watching for exchanges that need pinch hitters).

I try to update my journal semi-regularly and I do so because I want to keep in touch with some folks I met on a friending meme. I far prefer this to tumblr, but that is unfortunately where all the people are.

I ditched my LJ after the latest policy changes.

I'm on Livejournal, but I really miss the original energy it had. It's fine for what it is now, I just wish it were more fun. There isn't a lot of fun. It's like LJ died and went to the Medium Place.

I was on LJ for ten years and still am but a lot of my friends there are gone now and I miss them. When they changed hands I made a backup DW copy of everything (especially because my writing is very slashy) but I have had a very hard time making friends on DW because I don't have much fannish stuff in common with most of the people I've dealt with there. :(

I use my journal, mostly to keep track of my cosplay shit. sometimes I ramble, though, because my rambles are too long for plurk/discord/fb and I don't want anyone on fb to see them anyway. last thing I need is my mom commenting oddly on an entry about how I came to decide to reject religion.

I use mine mostly for exchange letters. I also have the occasional TV/book review but I keep that locked up for my eyes only.

I never had a DW account. I stopped using my LJ a couple of years back because I couldn't find anyone that shared my interests. It might be more accurate to say I couldn't find anyone who didn't outright hate my interests.

Also echoing the anon who said there was no fun there. It was really strange, but it got to where it seemed like having fun was actually looked down on? Unless it was in the carefully moderated and preordained way in which Things Had Always Been Done, with lots of rules and required consensus. It was stifling. Tumblr isn't the best platform, either, but I've had more fun there. It's easier to come and go as you please and do your own thing.

"Fun anon" here.

I didn't find it had to be moderated, but it definitely feels like fun is looked down on. I think some of it's because it's so RL centric, and RL isn't always very much fun. But I also think a lot of people use LJ as a journal in a really strict sense, which means you're expected to stick to "real" stuff.

It was weird. A bunch of sad and angry people who wanted everyone else to be as sad and angry as them. My flist resembled a funeral dirge on good days. My RL can be rough, too, but I go to fandom to escape that, so obviously that didn't work for me.

I was referring to moderation in terms of communities, fests, etc. I prefer the Wild West style of tumblr and AO3 because rules and restrictions are a buzzkill for me in fandom.

I mostly use my DW to post private rambly posts.

Sometimes it's speculation/theory posts about something that I like to check back on to see how right or wrong I was, other-times bitchy rants about whatever's bugging me that day. So it's used for cathartic reasons mainly.

I use Dreamwidth to mirror my main blog.

I was really active in Sims2 stuff on LJ before that sort of shut down.

I use Dreamwidth regularly. There are times where I don't use it for a few months, but it's served as a nice archive for things so I try to make a habit of it.

Fandom-wise, I mostly stick to RP circles. I moderate a couple of communities and make sure things run smoothly there. I think the only ACTIVE fan community I look after is [community profile] animeicons. Everything else is practically dead. I'm in the process of reviving a couple of dressing rooms with hopes of affiliating with other dressing rooms to kind of create a network of them in hopes of reviving some fandom based stuff here.

I no longer use my LiveJournals after the TOS changes. I imported everything to Dreamwidth as an archive, mass-deleted the entries, and keep some usernames for trading purposes.

I used to be active in fandom on LiveJournal. Modded two of the larger Naruto communities and maintained a ton of communities there, mostly icontests and icon sharing communities. With Photobucket nuking most of those icon posts though, I've decided to no longer keep up with them. LiveJournal recently deleted/purged a few of them for inactivity, but that's just how it is.

I use DW for RP stuff. I would absolutely use it for other fandom stuff if all the fandom wasn't on tumblr.

I do though I only post to DW and crosspost to LJ (or post to LJ only comms; I've been trying to use the DW versions where those now exist). I do find myself often just posting fic to AO3 and linking to it from my journals though because readership at LJ/DW has dropped off significantly.
