(Anonymous) 2018-05-13 01:30 am (UTC)(link)I don't like it, but capitalism is king and our culture has chosen driving, sitting at a desk all day, and junk food as the things to be lauded, and so the rest of our market - from vehicle sales to home sales to farming to government money for infrastructure - supports the culture no matter how terrible it is. We also devalue things that are altruistic, like thinking about the environment, our schools/children, our infrastructure, and our impact on other people while valuing selfishness and consumerism. We mock people who would like to grow their own food or bike to work or plant more trees and save the bees, and throw money at bigger houses, bigger cars, and politicians who talk big about making all the brown people go away.
Really, America sucks and I don't know why anyone wants to emigrate here. I'd leave if I could.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-13 05:51 am (UTC)(link)* this includes fast food and most restaurants but also convenience foods which also come in large portions
* very sedentary lifestyles
* most people don't know how to cook properly, so making meals for themselves that are both cheap AND healthy seems impossible, they don't even know where to begin and it feels pointless when you can just hit up Taco Bell or McDonalds dollar menu.
