And what did they overshare?

The a/c at my work has been working inconsistently and a co-worker who told me that his ass crack was so sweaty, he had to visit the bathroom to swab it out with toilet paper at least once a day or his underwear would get soaked.

(Just so you know... I wasn't sharing information about MY sweaty body parts with him or anyone else. I don't want anyone to think I was inviting this TMI, being a hypocrite, or "asking for it".)

...ew. That is the perfect definition of TMI, right there. Gross. Hopefully he won't go on about that anymore (or at the very least, hopefully you can get the A/C working at work again soon).

This wasn't really someone oversharing to me specifically because she was just talking loudly on the phone, but this morning everyone on the bus got treated to a detailed description of the huge, suppurating boil that the loud-voiced woman had under her boob.

I get those and they're awful... but I keep that to myself in public because nobody needs to hear about my boob-boils!

I think I'm more likely to be the TMI person. Don't ask me about my health unless you want to hear about it. I am way too comfortable talking about gross things because of all the time I spend in hospital.

I'm the TMI person, but I've gotten into the habit of asking the person if they're cool with TMI before blurting out whatever nonsense I feel the need to share.

I don't consider too many things as TMI...ACTUALLY! I was just reading a smut-tastic fic and in one of the A/N in the chapter I just finished reading, the author disclosed that the scene I was about to read was based on her irl experiences.... SON. I did not need to know that. It took me out of the fic so fast...ugh shudder. WHY? WHY DID YOU FEEL THE NEED TO SHARE THAT? Just...no.

OMG Why?! Why would an author disclose that? I would've backbuttoned so fast.

Now I just feel sad because the chapter after this was an update about how excited they were about things happening irl...

so chapter X was written to deal with a loss, A (not the same type of loss, B)
chapter Y was excitement about an event and future irl possibilities
chapter X has an edit (that I mentioned) stating that since the writing of the chapter, the author has experienced loss B irl, and is editing the chapter to be more reflective of her irl experience...the edit AN was written sometime after Chapter Y. It's sad. I'm just gonna skip the A/Ns.

Maybe it's a form of therapy? IDK Nonny, I'd just skip the author's notes.

I'm always curious about the context. Like what was happening when this statement came up? Was during breakfast preparations? And were they encouraging you to try it?/fear not?

I'm always reading at work, so my coworker asked me if I've ever read Fifty Shades of Grey. I said no and she started raving about the book, telling me how it really spiced up her love life in the bedroom and giving me graphic details about what she and her husband do. I didn't know how to react because I'm not close to this person at all and I don't care to hear about the sex lives of strangers, so I said my lunch break was over and left.

Oh dear, look out. There are a lot of commenters from secret #6 who'd jump at the opportunity to lecture you about what a horrible judgmental asshole you're being and how not wanting to hear about your co-worker's sex life makes you an ageist hypocrite for shaming older people in fandom!

I, on the other hand, think your co-worker definitely did was an inappropriate overshare and don't blame you for fleeing the scene of the TMI.

I realize people are super invested in believing that OP is wroooooong to find their MIL's fangirling gross or unwelcome, but... OP is in fact 100% entitled to feel that way, just as anon in this thread is.
