Think of it from a smaller scale. Earth has over 7 billion people and they are constantly polluting the planet with their cars and trash. Prices of resources increase when there are less resources and too many people. Cutting down the population by half not only reduces the waste and corruption humans bring to Earth but also leaves way more resources for everyone... which means dirt cheap food/gas/resources. More jobs... more everything.

People who say JUST ADD MORE are only making the same problem on a bigger scale. We can't see the stars at night anymore thanks to air pollution that humans made. We've completely ruined the oceans by dumping garbage into it. Sooner or later the Earth needs to be balanced out or we're gonna ruin it more than we already have. The problem is humans so the solution is less humans.

Humanity used to evolve because of natural selection but now we are encouraging laziness and sickliness so we stopped evolving and passing on traits that would make people stronger. So many people have depression or are miserable because they are born into a world of competition and getting a job you are actually happy with and providing a good life for their family without living paycheck to paycheck... is exceedingly rare. You wake up you work you go to sleep. That's the epitome of living to people these days. People don't think about the burden of bringing a new life into the world and if they can insure it's happiness. Instead of adopting kids that are already in a shitty situation they just keep adding without thinking if that kids life will be set or if they can take care of them.

There are too many people on this planet.

For instance, there IS enough food on Earth. It is just a distribution thing. Killing half the pop, might make people desperate enough to share.

Thanos doesn' t understand sustainability

Anyone who works in computers understands sustainability better than a half-mad Titan. Resolve the underlying issue. E.g., If you are taking up too much space on your HD, then reduce the amount of space each file requires (e.g., use compression)--that resolves the issue much better than randomly deleting half your files.

Thanos is an idiot. He should have solved human physical requirements--made us not need food to survive (how about making it so we subsist on light?) Not just eliminated half, when humans will replicate themselves back up to high numbers in no time.

So couldn’t Thanos just set fertility to replacement rate, or even lower? If he made it so humans (did he wipe out half the cockroaches? Half the narwhals? Half the toadstools?) could only each have one kid and then were sterile, that would cut population within a few generations because some people would die without reproducing, without killing existing people. Especially if he wiped out everyone living in America and maybe Japan and Western Europe plus the richest .1% every place else.
