(Anonymous) 2018-05-26 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)Yes, I've gotten my share of "OMG MORE" or "I DEMAND U WRITE MORE" or "omg plssss next chapter or sequel before I go on [insert elaborate an unnecessary detail about personal vacation from a total stranger]" but I don't understand why that's offensive. It's kind of cute. Aw, someone liked the fic so much they couldn't help blurting out sheer enthusiasm for more of whatever you wrote, whether or not it makes logical sense for there to be more or not.
Literally zero of those people have checked back in a week being like "so where's the more I demanded from you that you owe me, slave?" And that didn't bother me because I understood (correctly, I might add) that these were not actually demands, and the probably very reasonable commenter probably moved onto the next fic they enjoyed and forgot about mine unless they favorited it or something.
The amount of irrationality being attributed to each side by the other side in this debate is so alien to me.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-26 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)Plus if people go "MORE" or "UPDATE NOW" I just go hey there isn't any more of this fic since it's a one-shot, but here's a link to my other writing in this fandom! They're usually very pleased with that and it works out for everybody.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-26 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)You're lucky, then. I actually have had people come back to comment again demanding a sequel to that fic I wrote, or pestering me in the comments on other fics about why I'm wasting my time with [series I love/ship I love/fandom I love] and not writing more for [(closed) series they want/ship they want/fandom they want]. It's not hugely common, but it happened enough when I was writing in particularly wanky and divided fandoms that comments that are just "OMG MORE" or "I DEMAND U WRITE MORE" put my back up, because this commenter is probably a perfectly reasonable human who was just expressing enthusiasm, but maybe they're not and I'm going to come back from vacation to find increasingly strident demands that I write this thing they want immediately.
I'm sure not everyone who's put off by that kind of comment has actually attracted demanding assholes in the past, but there are enough of them out there that I wouldn't be remotely surprised to find that any given writer has.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-27 02:31 am (UTC)(link)I'm just glad anyone interacts with my fics at all; I'm not about to dictate how they are. I may personally find it irritating, but I'm not going to complain about it out there.
