That for people with disabilities, standing on top of the railing and leaning on it is their private hell.

Especially when you see them using the railing and still don't move.

What do you mean?

AYRT: When you're trying to get up the stairs, but need to hold the railing. People always love to hang out at the top by the railing and don't seem to realize how hard it is for some of us to navigate that.

Oh I see, with -> wish lol

Hmmmm

Oh

That you can't pause a ton of online games.

No amount of nagging will make this magical thing possible where 39 other players in a raid burning potion timers will stop and do nothing and wait around for you to do some chore that could be done later.

That no one - aside from family and close friends - finds their kids as interesting as they do.

Oh gosh yes. Even family and close friends struggle sometimes.

But talk about your pets and I'm in.

Well, I doubt anyone thinks people find their kids as interesting as they, the parents, do. But not everybody hates kids. I personally like seeing baby pictures or hear silly kid stories, as long as it's within reason.

All those cute big cat gifs and instagram videos you see?

Are probably from Black Jaguar White Tiger. He is an animal hoarder masquerading as an animal sanctuary.

Yeah! Combined with "that video of the person playing hands-on with the fully grown lion is not cute, it's dangerous and stupid"

ugh yes, I hate hate HATE videos of humans interacting with big cats at all, no matter how cute, cuddly, or playful it is. Unless the animal has been tranquilized and is under for a vet appointment, this should not be happening. And it's usually indicative of private breeders/hoarders/pseudo-sanctuaries.

Took me a while to think of something, because everything I thought of at first was legal and actually was life changing things for some people.

Uh, I'll go with the fact that cats aren't dogs. Don't be surprised if they don't want to play fetch or cuddle all the time. And they need play time, and a different type of play from dogs.

So many people get surprised when cats don't act like dogs, and cats get returned to shelters or abandoned because of it.

This.

I honestly wonder why those kinds of people don't just get a small lap-dog since that's basically what they're after.

I don't get it at all.

My dad has always been a dog person. We've had cats, but they were always super cuddly cats. My current cat is not. She's very cat, and she's clearly been abused in the past. My dad tries to play rough with her and tries to touch her all the time and then wonders why he's the only one whose legs she nips. Because she thinks you're a cat, dad. I've told you several times not to touch her like that. You're the problem.

Of the two cats my family currently has the small girl is not a cuddly cat, she likes head/chin scritches and occasional tummy/under her front legs rubs(so long as you're gentle), but she's not a lap-cat by any means.

While it's a bit sad because she is the cutest little thing it's how she is so we respect her boundaries and as a result she likes to sleep on my bed with me sometimes or near one of us on the sofa(but never on us).

However some of our other family is used to their more cuddly cats, try to man-handle her a bit even when we tell them she doesn't like it, and they wonder why she mostly gives them a wide berth when they visit.

Curiously my uncle, who does follow her boundaries, she'll sleep on the bed with when he comes over, funny that. And he doesn't even have pets!

I think even cat-people are a bit shit at reading cat body langue and queues sometimes tbh.

I agree, and I also find that people have no idea how to read cat expressions or understand cat body language. I think cat "language" often pings to the human brain as haughty, bitchy, or aggressive when it isn't. For example, cats "glaring" at you - looking at you with half-lidded eyes - is basically the cat smiling, and people don't get that.

People can also be way too loud and aggressive around cats in a way that might be playful to a dog, but freaks a cat out.

Yup. And even people who have had cats before can forget these things. Some cats are very cuddly. Some cats are lap cats. But many aren't. Many don't do well with a whole lot of contact. They show love by looking at you and by wanting to be near you. My cat doesn't do much touch, but she sleeps on the end of my bed and will follow me around the house and settle herself down near me. So I know she loves me. I don't need to force something she doesn't want.

Exactly. If a cat wants your attention and love, it will let you know :p.

you have to be willing to read and accept cats' moods.

[personal profile] philstar22 2018-05-30 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And to do that, you have to understand cat language. Even cats who you think are acting like dogs are speaking cat. They are just a cuddly cat, a lap cat. But their language is still cat.
