He went off during an interview about how unfair it was for him not to be able to say the n-word and then proceeded to say it several times. He really shouldn't be in a movie about black people at all imo

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Link?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I know no one likes this blog but here is a collection of his shit with links:

http://yourfaveisproblematic.tumblr.com/post/45883559709/martin-freeman

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, considering at least two of those links are taken out of context, why would I believe anything they say?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmm. If you are talking about the itnerview I am thinking of, no he didn't.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
And Chadwick Boseman defended a rapist who drove his victim to kill herself

But it’s Martin Freeman you take issue with

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder why??

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, realistically, probably 60% of Hollywood stars have defended a rapist at one point or another

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
So what? Why does he get a pass if you’re going to go after Martin Freeman?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying it's any better than everyone who's defended Roman Polanski

but you can still think that and also find Martin Freeman annoying

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

Except the thread isn't someone going "Martin Freeman is annoying" and someone else replying "YEAH WELL CHADWICK BOSEMAN DID THIS HORRIBLE THING SO WHY ARE YOU LETTING HIM OFF THE HOOK HUH!?!??!111"

This is a thread where someone brought up Freeman's misbehavior as a reason to dislike him, and someone else brought up Boseman's misbehavior as a response. If you think that a celebrity doing something problematic is a gotcha, you can't pick and choose who gets shunned for doing fucked up things.

It seems to me that this is actually exactly what happened? From my point of view, at least. And they also implied that people only disliked Freeman because he was white / let Boseman off the hook because he was black, which is another fun thing.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-13 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The Boseman comment was a response to a comment about a racist tirade Freeman went on.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-14 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
But it still wasn't really related to the conversation? And it still said that people were being reverse racist against Martin Freeman?

(Anonymous) 2018-06-14 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
??? All I'm saying is that to say this is a thread about finding Freeman annoying is incorrect. It's about offenses graver than just being annoying.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-14 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
It’s related. The post is about taking issue with Freeman being in the film because of his past actions when the lead of said film is a rapist supporter.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-14 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
This is classic 'whataboutism'. The discussion is about Martin Freeman, not Chadwick Boseman.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-14 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
The discussion is about taking issue with Freeman being in this specific film. Singling him out while the lead is much worse is a valid point.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-14 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
The discussion is about taking issue with Freeman being in this specific film.

The specific person who said that - which is just one person - said that it was bad specifically because it was a film about black people, not because Freeman was uniquely bad or past some moral event horizon

so at best, you're basing this on misreading the initial point

(Anonymous) 2018-06-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
A white guy ranting about how it's "unfair" that he's not allowed to use the n-word is bad in general, not just when he's an actor in a film about black people.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-14 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello friend, I don't think you understood which part of the post was a secret. It's not a secret that I think Freeman is an asshole. It is a secret that I think he is cute and therefore want to see him in movies, despite being an asshole and getting roles that I wasn't a fan of.

So, whether I take issue with other problematic actors in BP is not relevant in this case.
