Ask people what you should do.

Should I get takeout tomorrow or just eat some leftovers?

Re: Should I....

(Anonymous) 2018-06-15 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
It depends, what kind of take out, what kind of leftovers?

Hamburger and fries from my favorite fastfood place (I don't get fastfood often). For leftovers, I got some mac and cheese and hot dogs.

Watch the Godfather trilogy? Is it worth the hype?

Re: Should I....

(Anonymous) 2018-06-15 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
The first two, absolutely. They're definitely slow and drawn out, and their fans can definitely be annoying, and the slightly old-fashioned masculinity could be offputting for some people I imagine. But they're incredibly good, well-made, perfect movies. They're just masterpieces. Definitely worth at least watching the first one to see if you hate it.

The third one sucks. Don't watch it.

So I won't miss any story by skipping the third one?

I love the first two and have watched them many times. I think the first one is a worth a watch solely for its wider cultural impact. There are references to it in all types of media. The soundtrack is also very good, and young Al Pacino is hot af.

The first two are quite good and I recommend both. The third is legendarily bad, watch if you like but it really pales in comparison to the first two.

Work on my fic or study for my test?

Re: Should I....

Study.

Fic.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-15 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
When is the test? If it’s tomorrow, study. If it’s in two days, study for an hour, write for an hour, repeat. If it’s in two weeks, fic while the inspiration’s got your brain.

FIC! Only because I've been awful about writing lately.

Not for nothing. It's one thing to do something useful that kills you, another to just give up and die as if that were useful in itself.

And right now there's the whole plan some of us have to stay alive out of spite and drive the pigs out of power.

[I'm sorry if that was grimmer than it should have been.]

Kittens?

[personal profile] syncing_feeling 2018-06-15 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
We lost Charlie a few days ago. We had him put to sleep when it became clear he was struggling to breathe. He was my baby. We're brokenhearted over it and while I can see where he's coming from, my partner is already talking about getting a new kitten in about a month's time.

First, I'm worried he's rushing to fill a hole, and second, I've only ever been around adult cats, not kittens. I'm already looking around the house thinking "that could fall on them, they could get stuck there, what if they eat that," etc. Also we both work and I'm not sure I like the idea of leaving an energetic kitten alone in the house for hours. But he's super excited about the idea of a kitten. :( Do I try and nudge him towards a full-grown kitty (and waiting a while longer to heal from losing Charlie)? Can anyone with kitten experience give some advice?

So sorry to hear about Charlie. It's heartbreaking to lose a cat, but it's clear that he was well loved and that means a lot.

About the kittens - as a regular cat foster who has fostered many cats of all ages, kittens are a lot of work. Kittens and puppies are like toddlers. They are adorable, fun, exasperating, destructive, and you always worry about them killing themselves accidentally. I think a lot of shelters even avoid adopting out cats under 1 year old to homes where the adults work full time hours because of all the attention they need. But could you make it work? I'm sure, as long as you realize what a commitment it is.

That being said, even a 1-year-old cat is still pretty much a kitten, just a little sturdier and slightly less hyperactive (but still pretty hyper and fun). Even a 3-year-old would have a lot of energy. Then again, maybe an 8-year-old will steal your heart.

Last year when my mom passed away I inherited a house built in 1947, complete with a garage conversion festooned with popcorn ceiling that harbors mold and needs removing.

The room’s about 220 ft sq and there’s a good chance that in addition to the mold it’s full of asbestos. I make ~$1,400/month and the house needs a ton of other work (and new appliances) to be salvageable, most of which I’m pretty sure I can’t do myself.

The electrical wiring is borked in the bathroom and living room, one of the two bathrooms is a not-to-code addition, there’s a hole in the floor under the refrigerator, it needs new windows because the old ones are rotting out of their frames, and probably more I’m forgetting.

But I can scrape and repaint a ceiling, which Inplsn to do if it tests negative for asbestos. If it tests positive for asbestos, should I buy a respirator mask and do it myself, or...?

Re: Should I....

There is likely a regulation in your area on how to deal with any given kind of asbestos. So long as it's in place, it likely will not be a problem, but I believe messing with it in any way should be done by someone who knows more about it.

(And I come from a long line of fools who would barge in and do it ourselves. But still.)

Don't fuck with asbestos. Get the pros to take care of it.
