I really don't like cheating in fiction or real life, though I can think of some circumstances where it is understandable. However, in most cases, how hard is it to break up with someone before getting with someone else. Hell, you can just say you don't want to be exclusive at the start or find someone who wants an open relationship. There are a lot of ways to avoid infidelity and I don't have much sympathy for "we couldn't help it", unless they actually couldn't help it - brain injury, aliens/magic made them do it, etc.
