Oh neat, one of my comments got made into a secret.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
yeah. and turning the success or failure of various movies into, like, a battle of good and evil isn't great either, tbh. But trying to actually approach things with nuance on the Internet is getting harder and harder. It's a little inevitable.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's called "slacktivism" for a reason. People just like to look socially aware but don't actually want to do anything to effect a real-world change.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's also kind of a response to people doing the same thing from the other side - rooting for projects to fail because they're diverse, that sort of thing.

Everyone is stupid all the time always.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Slacktivist will always be the perfect term for those annoying SJW's on tumblr/twitter.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
My literal reaction to the secret was a shrug.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
... and a comment, to let everyone know how cool you were for feeling indifferent. ;)

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

I wasn't trying for cool at all - I was commenting on my apathy towards slacktivism, which I thought was funny, but maybe not. Oh, well.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Not heroism, no. On the other hand it's not nothing either. People are much more aware now of how few mainstream movies with POC leads exist, and how mainstream movies with POC leads can be successful, which is nice.

I could do with a little less patting themselves on the back stuff too, but in the end it's the success of the movies that will matter, not how proud Susie Nobody was of herself on Twitter.

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah - not every good thing a person does is Heroic(TM). Picking up litter isn't Heroic. Remembering to tell a loved one that you love them isn't Heroic.

They're still... good.

DIdn't we already rehash this conversation

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Possibly. But participation isn't mandatory, so anyone who doesn't want to join in can very easily opt out and those who want to continue the discussion can do so.

+1,000,000

I get tired of those who presume to speak for everyone because they saw something once before.

You got very snitty over.....what, exactly? Someone wondering if a pretty specific conversation was talked about before?

If you see me trying to stop it somewhere, let me know!

(Anonymous) 2018-06-26 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU may have. Others may have not.

I'm not sure where the influx of pissy anons came from lately, but you can keep it and maybe not get offended at someone asking a question.

Do you have a fit every time someone wonders if a conversation was had before? Do you see me trying to stop this at all?

Or if you do get offended, go be a wart on the ass of humanity to someone else.

When you feel sufficiently dispirited, money can seem like the only thing that actually makes a difference. Then again, if you want to give to charity, there’s always Habitat for Humanity.

I don't know if they still discriminate.

?? Citation? I can't find anything on google.

they used to have a policy of not helping people who didn't have kids

Still not finding a lot. It makes sense that its more difficult for poor families to find housing than it is for singles or couples with no children. Not seeing so much as discrimination as choosing who they want to help with limited resources.

But - haven't yet found a story or article showing someone having been told they couldn't apply/didn't get a home because they were single.
*shrug*

nobody should be homeless. I don't think it matters whether they bred or not.

No, they shouldn't. But different organizations have different missions. And like i said - haven't found a 'i was told being single disqualified me' story online, and in fact the official page has income requirements for both single individuals and families.

good, they must have changed.
