My problem with 40K is that it focuses so much on the Imperium/Space Marines, who *are* quite mundane and dull and grinding and uninteresting to me. And, also, who often read as weirdly sympathetic for a bunch of space fascists, especially amongst the fandom.

IA about Tyranids and especially Necrons. Necrons are just so cool aesthetically, I love 'em, they're total badasses and no one pretends they're not huge terrible evil weirdos.

True. I'm pretty good at ignoring the bits of canons that I don't like/amn't interested in, though, when there's enough else in the canon that I do. Though, to be fair, I'm not exactly in the WH40K fandom. I just admire the concept and the fluff from a distance, really.

Necrons are definitely the coolest concept in the game for me. Tyranids run a close second as an apocalyptic concept, and the Swarmlord is a fascinating idea. I'm also very fond of the Orks as an idea, though admittedly the execution gets a bit grating at times. I love Tzeentch and Nurgle among the Chaos gods, and the Eldar Laughing God as well. In general I'm all about the xenos, baby!

With exceptions: the Tau are boring to me, and the Dark Eldar are somewhat tired and familiar as well. Though the city of Comorragh as a concept is spectacular.

Tau are a little dull, yeah. And Dark Eldar too, but I like the regular variety a lot - they're also kinda tired and familiar but it's a familiar thing that I like a lot, so.

I have a soft spot for the Eldar as well. Helps that I love the Harlequin as a motif, and that one of the first bits of their fluff I read about was Maugan Ra. Cegorach and Ynnead are also very cool. The fallen race on their last legs fighting to preserve some tiny piece of themselves, not only in this life but the afterlife, is an old but good plotline.

The Eldar/Dark Eldar have always felt very Moorcock-y and Elric-ish, which is something that I appreciate a lot. There's just a lot of cool aesthetic stuff there. In addition to the insane, over the top 40k stuff. It's a nice balance.

I love the Space Wolves, but I find the rest of the chapters boring. I think it's because they are pretty much pagans only follow the Imperium's rules just enough to not get kicked out XD
