I don't think people acting like dicks means they're trolling. I say stupid shit (I mean, literally stupid) and people think I'm trolling when really I'm just dumb.

There's just no way to know for sure what any anon's intentions are, so... try not to worry about it? You'll be much happier!

I looked it up, and one of the definitions on Merriam Websters is indeed

to harass, criticize, or antagonize (someone) especially by provocatively disparaging or mocking public statements, postings, or acts

At least in my part of the world, casual internet users (uses the internet primarily for facebook and checking the news) will use the word "trolling" about ALL kinds of online harassment. I suspect that the original meaning of the word (stirring shit for giggles) is mostly just used in online spaces that go way back.
