I'm not really a fan of the show either, but it was said to be kind of revolutionary in being a sex-positive show starring a cast of adult women. More to the point, it's got a vibe that's either going to register as fun or grating, and a lot of people fell into the first category. I don't think the women were supposed to be flawless, rather, their mistakes and flaws are usually easy to identify and tend to end up being "lessons" narrated by Carrie at the end of the episode.

I also have to admit, while I was never into the show, I did go see the first movie with my mom, and actually thought it was really fantastic. The lessons felt both authentic and were really positive and kind of moving. But I don't think the actual series itself was ever quite that good. (and the second film was a racist shitshow so whatever)

Woah, racist how? I know nothing about it.

As I recall, the ladies go to a middle eastern country where local women where burkas. "hilarity" ensues as they tout their Western feminism about, at one point one of the women gets arrested for having sex in public and is outraged. And they only finally connect with the local women when it is revealed that the local women secretly wear designer fashion underneath their burkas. It's a lot of supposed comic relief at them bumbling about in a different culture and making fun of said culture.

really baffling that anyone would have thought that this would make a good movie and a nice follow-up to the first movie, which was actually pretty good.
