Or it could still be gay by any mention he's attracted to men. You don't need a love interest to have a sexuality.

Also I'm confused how it's considered bad that someone dated/was in love with someone before their main story love. It's how life works.

(On a side note, can't see him with Chris at all)

+1

I haven't seen this anime at all so I can't agree with the last part of this, but I agree with everything else.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-12 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't see him with Chris either.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-12 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand this secret at all.

So confused.

It's the prequel movie for a mediocre anime that was hailed as an "LGBT champion" because of fanservice so ridiculous that it was hard to tell whether it was satire or not. A lot of fangirls + a lot of wishful thinking = the fanservice was taken for canon. Now, a lot of them are upset because the movie is set to take place a decade before the supposed couple even met and that's not nearly gay enough.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-12 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[nayrt] you're an asshole

(Anonymous) 2018-07-12 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, but there's still things I'm confused about. Why is this apparent teen!victor/chris pairing delusional? And especially, what does OP mean by all that stuff about love interests and Star Wars and dudebros. Just, like, what is going on with all of that.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-12 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

I think the Marvel is in reference to the "shoehorning" in of Sharon Carter in Captain America: Civil War, which some people saw as a way to negate any Steve/Bucky vibes. And the Star Wars might be about Solo and the fact that Han had a previously unmentioned, but apparently pretty significant to his backstory, relationship prior to him and Leia.

To me, it sounds like OP thinks other fans are unfamiliar with how manga and anime broadly tend to be the brainchild of a single person. OP seems to think these other fans believe it works like the corresponding US industries, with multiple universes/retcons/what have you, and where franchises belonging to big publishers will see new creative teams being hired to have their own go at the material, even if it contradicts the visions of someone who worked with it before.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
(not OP)

Victor says he hasn't had love and live in over 17+ years. We know he had relationships, but they probably were, at best, superficial and not something that can be called "love."

Giving Victor a "love interest" (be it Chris, or some random female characters to cater to self-inserters) or making the movie about his "love life" would contradict canon, and YOI isn't like big canons with many time lines, canon AUs, plot points that are forgotten just because, etc.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god, you're one of those.

Two dudes could be buttfucking on screen and you'd still say it was just fanservice.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Sailor Moon. Cardcaptor Sakura. Revolutionary Girl Utena. Yurikuma Arashi. No. 6.

Add Samurai Flamenco, Tiger and Bunny, and Evangelion, if you want to argue about what constitutes "canon". There is also an adaptation of Banana Fish airing that is probably going to end up in the same place.

There's a difference between same-sex relationships as a part of the story, and steamy fanservice that is just "up to the viewers interpretation".

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that other anon was right, you're one of those. Please go wank about shows being "not canon enough" or "too fanservice" somewhere else.

It's been a while, but I thought the only canon gay relationship in Cardcaptor Sakura was between her brother and Yukito and they were way less overt than Yuri and Victor.

da Not sure if I missed something, but I'm pretty sure the creators said the 'supposed couple' are indeed canonically together.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Being this bitter about a successful franchise not aimed at dudebros.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-12 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I follow. Are you objecting to Viktor/Chris, Viktor/[any person but Yuuri OTP 4EVA], or something else?

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think what OP is objecting to is the idea of franchises (they mentioned MCU, but this definitely occurs in a lot of Western canon, like having a new Bond girl for every movie) adding/subtracting love interests as they see fit because they are written by different people. I don't mind the Bond girls, but sometimes things like Magneto/Rogue happen because the current writer loves those two characters and some fans are left wondering what they missed.

As another anon had pointed out, Victor has specifically said it's been almost 2 decades since he had done any 'life and love', so unless he's very very young in Ice Adolescence it would be contradicting season 1 canon if he's suddenly in a relationship. (Unless they're friends with benefits.)

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
But victor does say he's had lovers before, when he asks Yuri about it. Might not have been serious and they obviously didn't work out, but nonetheless.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-12 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's more likely will include some scenes in the present with Victor and Yuuri.

And honestly, I don't get why anyone would expect Chris/Victor. When Victor was a teenager, Chris was a kid still in juniors who idolized him*, not someone close to him!

Even currently they act like people who get along and see each other a few times a year, not like close friends or exes.

*Like pre canon Yuuri, who we know is going to be in the movie, since Toshi already mentioned working on it, and they have teased us about Yuuri's new costume. We haven't heard anything about Chris, so chances are he won't have a big role anyway.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-12 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, OP. Victor did sorta hint that he'd dated or at least had loved other people, so it wouldn't be out of the realm of reality for him to have had past lovers. I can't see him with Chris though.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh come now, am I the only one that definitely saw the possibility of Victor/Chris? Skinny dipping together, taking suggestive selfies together, Chris is hypersexual and also obsessed with Victor - and Victor seems friendly and welcoming of Chris? They totally might've fucked. I don't like them as endgame canon because Victor and Yuri are made for each other, but I would not be opposed to Victor and Chris having fucked a few times.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
I can totally see Viktor and Chris as having had a FWB sort of relationship in the past, but not around the time I assume this takes place? I mean, I can't say for certain, but I'm guessing the movie takes place when Viktor's a teen, and there's just enough of an age gap between him and Chris that them boning as teens would be creepy to me.

(Anonymous) 2018-07-13 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
This movie is probably going to be Yuuri and Victor in the present, with Victor having flashbacks. I mean, the romantic relatiosnhip between them was not the absolute focus of the series - it was personal growth and relationships of all kinds. I'm down with Victor having had relationships before Yuuri (chances are fairly high), but he also seems fairly naïve and frankly kind of ignorant by so many things in the series, that I can totally see him with his laser focus on the sport.

Meh. I just like the characters. Romantic relationships or not.
