There's definitely a lot of stupid, endlessly frustrating bullshit on the Internet. At the same time, I'm pretty sure that I would strongly disagree with a lot of your examples here if you had given any actual details.

Maybe I wouldn't. Anything's possible. But in my experience with people who talk like OP does, they almost always have a lot of definitions and ideas that I disagree with. The idea that there's a "cycle of outrage that provides their source of leisure time", for instance, very often is used of people who are making very reasonable criticisms of bad things. The idea of "self-flagellating" and "taking in bigoted rhetoric and spitting it back out under the guise of progress" - almost anything could be meant by those ideas, and I see no reason to think that OP's idea of "bigoted rhetoric" is one that I would agree with.

Nothing about OP said is actually wrong, but their language is so vague and imprecise that it could really mean almost anything. And in practice, my experience is that saying things like this is usually used as a criticism of paying any kind of attention at all to social justice.

I feel similarly. It does suck what they are actually saying, of course, but it's also just this general negativity that infects fandom spaces and sucks so much joy out of anything you want to do.

Even worse when they actually do manage to have an impact by driving people away, doxxing, or hurting people.

Because they usually are? Or at least the majority of anti blogs list their age as 13-15. Whether they actually are who knows.

I think most adults realize the world isn't going to conform to their comfort zone, it seems like something young sheltered kids would think.

I feel bad for some of them but I'm not quite as nice about the adults who run the communities and try to pull minors into their sick little cult.

Everything I've heard about their discord servers shows them as remorseless bullies and doxxers. Or incredibly predatory, creepy people wanting to basically gaslight and manipulate young fans while calling them-selves fandom mom while they show the minors nsfw/porn for the purpose of telling them why its bad and using them as human sheilds for "think of the children" emotional manipulation and aversion of responsibility.

I have little sympathy towards the bullies who have driven people to and to near suicide and ended a life over what was supposed to be fun. Was it worth it?

the so called fandom moms are just groomers/predators under a different name. However they're far and few between and have now caused shitheel antis to call anyone over 25 enjoying their own spaces decrepit and need to go back to raising children. So it goes both ways.

Um I was seeing anti adult sentiment long before anti creepy "fandom moms".

A few years ago I recall instances of teens declaring that the internet is for children/teens and adults are invading it. And antis have been those creepy fandom mom types while decrying other adult fandom members as "gross" and "creepy.

I think if you're running an account or sideblog dedicated to naming and shaming anyone who likes that problematic ship, you're probably an asshole. And especially nowadays I've seen "callout" posts on people who take the position that maybe harassing shippers you don't like is a bad thing.

I'm sometimes torn between pity, disgust and just plain irritation when it comes to antis. Usually, the irritation wins out. I remember someone on Tumblr saying that anti culture is just conservative Christianity with a gay hat and godDAMN is that ever true. They even have the same rallying cry of "Think of the children!" They're what you'd get if Nancy Grace decided to become a queer (oh, sorry, "q-slur") ally.

I'm gonna parrot everyone else and say you're a bigger person than I am because I absolutely hate them and would actively call them out.

That said I've found that a lot of antis are young and impressionable peeps that tend to parrot whatever they hear is right and wrong. Can't really blame them since we've all been through that phase where you thought not being like "the other perverts on the internet" made you cool somehow and they will eventually (hopefully) grow up from it. Adults should know better, though.

The ones I can definitely never forgive are the type who actively bully and harass others. I've seen it happen to the point of watching an 18 yo girl calling another 18 yo girl's work to tell them she was a "pedophile" just because she liked lolita fashion and actively reblogged it. Or the infamous Zamii incident. Those people make 4chan look pristine in comparison.
