O_O HOLY FUCKING BATSHIT F!S, BATMAN!

We ARE watching the same show, yes? We saw the same scene? I've seen it twice already, and I didn't come away with that impression. I saw someone who saved the life of a dear friend in the only way he knew how.

WTF?!

But he didn't really save her, did he? Donna Noble, or at least the Donna who had grown with The Doctor, doesn't exist anymore. Not saying I agree with the OP, but I can tell you that The Doctor could have at least listened when Donna told him no. He's let dear friends pass away with dignity before.

I feel we'll all have egg on our faces halfway through series five, when Donna suddenly remembers everything and goes on to be Lady President of a newly-un-Time-Warred Gallifrey.

At least now she has a chance to live and maybe a chance for the Doctor to eventually figure out how to get her memories back without killing her. Right now? Not so possible. Her being dead, however, makes that UTTERLY impossible.

Just playing devil's advocate, really. I'm of the opinion that she will regain her memories and fight on another day (especially since everyone but Christopher Eccleston seems to make return trips to the show. Ahem, John Simm in the near future). But since the rest of the episode featured The Doctor dumping DonnaDoctor on Rose in the alternate dimension and bidding farewell to everyone without even asking if they want to come along again, you can see where the OP was a bit pissed.

What I'm wondering, though, is why The Doc didn't ask Wilfred Mott if he'd like to take a spin around the galaxy. He'd just reduced his granddaughter back to a temp after she'd save the universe, and Wilfred is obviously as competent as the last few companions, so it would have been the least The Doctor could do.

I would've liked to have seen Wilf join him for at least a trip or two. It would've been AWESOME.

But Wilf reminds me a bit of my own dad, and I think my dad wanted to join the Doctor in the TARDIS before I was even born :)

The point is he didn't give her a chance to make the choice herself. I think he did the right thing in saving her, but I can see why someone else doesn't. She had exactly the same knowledge as him, and she was begging him not to. It was a horrible scene.

Yes. He...absolutely did. What he did is the VERY DEFINITION OF mindrape. And, honestly, if you can't see the rape analogies in the scene (Donna, crying and sobbing, and begging him not to and saying 'no, no, no' over and over again) then...wow.

You can't. And not only that, but that would've eliminated ANY future possibility that the Doctor could have in the future to find a way to give her back her memories without the destruction of her life.

If she died... that possibility would not exist.

I know she made that choice because...she said, and I'm quoting, "I was going to be with you forever. Until the day I died." And then proceeded to beg him to not do what he did.

I'm sorry, I don't think she was saying to the Doctor "No, please let me die."

All right, if you think she was protesting about something else entirely, sure.

I'm not convinced that's its interpretation.

So how should we interpret "No! Oh my god... I can't go back. Don't make me go back. Doctor, please, please don't make me go back! No, no, no, please! Please, no, no! No!"

At this point, let's agree to disagree. Right now we're just going back and forth, not seeing eye to eye, and maybe just dropping it is the mature thing to do right now.

Here's what pisses ME off: Rose absorbs the whole freaking TIME STREAM and all the Doctor has to do is kiss her and make it all better.. Donna just gets ONE Time Lord's memories.. And has to have her mind erased?? It makes NO DAMN SENSE to me. Well, it does, knowing who it was written by, but that's another story.

To be fair, remember that re-absorbing the time stream from Rose is what killed Nine - it's not as if there wasn't a death involved. It just happened to be to someone who could regenerate.

But yeah, lame. RTD couldn't be more inconsistent if he were chunky peanut butter left out in the sun.

Yes, you're right, he did die and regenerate, but it still turned out all right. And in this case, I doubt anything that bad would happen, seeing as these are his memories.. he'd just, like, be reabsorbing them.
