I'm sure there would be less complaints about Rose if she was hot, but even then they would still exist. Most of the critism is still legit, and people are willing to go as far as to say she's worse than Jar Jar Binks.

Not all of the criticism of her is sexist or racist, true. But even most of the "legit" criticism is still really stupid.

Not everyone wants to admit they hate her just for her race or gender so they'll look for criticism in her character elsewhere, even if the criticism was motivated by something completely different.

Nostalgia? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't see it either but a lot of fans were pretty harsh on Last Jedi and hate on everything about it more than they disliked parts of the prequels.

She's not. But she IS a not white, not male who is not skinny. So, misogyny and racism basically.

Since this new trilogy is the only ones I've seen (I really did try with the original 3 but just couldn't make it) I don't think she's a bad character? She's a little bland, but so are some of the others'. Plus I think she's kind of adorable looking.

I was actually excited for half a second when I saw her on screen (didn't pay attention to actor lists or watch trailers), but her characters was just so much plot device it hurts. Everyone in the Last Jedi felt that way to me, but she's also didn't have scenes in a previous movie to make me care about her. I'll admit I really just hated the Last Jedi though, so I can't judge her character impartially.

You can't say "most of the criticism is still legit" and then cite "worse than Jar Jar" as an example. That is another classic disingenuous argument, just like the one in the secret. They aren't made in good faith.
