101. Sarah Brightman blows, but... I really just can't see the words "fragile" and "Michael Crawford" fitting into the same sentence. o.0

104. Ditto <3

115. Um... yeah, fathers die every day. Sorry I don't see what's special about hers.

122. That actor is actually my second cousin once removed. Hah. x3

138. ....THAT'S one I've never heard. I'm just the oppsite. I hate female characters, not women. o.0 It does make me twitch how many women think hating female characters makes me some kind of mysogenystic ass, though. I am an ass, but I mean... uhh... I like women. A lot. I plan to marry one someday. FICTIONAL WOMEN ARE NOT REAL WOMEN. I have a right to hate them if I damn well want to.

155. I firmly believe that there is nothing wrong with this.

You hate all female characters?

[identity profile] gethenian.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
HERE WE GO.

Yes. I can name about three I like. So yes. EFFECTIVELY, I do not like fictional women in lead roles.

....THAT'S one I've never heard. I'm just the oppsite. I hate Toyota Tundras, not trucks. o.0 It does make me twitch how many truck lovers think hating Toyota trucks makes me some kind of truck-hating ass, though. I am an ass, but I mean... uhh... I like trucks. A lot. I plan to buy one someday. TOYOTA TUNDRAS ARE NOT REAL TRUCKS. I have a right to hate them if I damn well want to.

138. "I plan to marry one someday" is not a terribly convincing argument. What reason do you have to not like all but three fictional women, if not some kind of internalized prejudice?

[identity profile] gethenian.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck if I know. I can't tell you WHY I don't like most imaginary women and like most unimaginary ones. But considering there's zero correlation between how I think of fictional women and how I think of real ones, I wonder -- does it actually MATTER why?

I would not give a shit. Because people on the internet do not know me, or him. I might just as well sit around caring what goldfish say about the experience of interstellar travel.

You've got it backwards. The secret-maker's not saying he's a spechiful person who should be treated extra-special. They're saying that even though he's an actor he's still a human being first, and should be treated with the respect all human beings deserve.

Someone has to be a balance against the weeping masses mourning a guy they never knew just because he was hot.

Where are the "I FAP TO BERNIE MAC" secrets?

...no?

Oh right, sorry, he wasn't hot enough to have parades of mourners. Nevermind.

[identity profile] fan-of-miggie.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I read one of your journal entries and I must say, no one asked you to care whether or not Heath Ledger is dead. And, uh, hello! His last full film is out right now. Do you not expect the mourning to resume at least a little bit? I mean, if you don't care that he died, why do you care that others do? Just ignore it and go on living your life!

~*Kelsey*~

[identity profile] gethenian.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 05:46 am (UTC)(link)

138. ....THAT'S one I've never heard. I'm just the oppsite. I like women. A lot. I plan to marry one someday. FICTIONAL WOMEN ARE NOT REAL WOMEN. I have a right to hate them if I damn well want to.

Okay, first of all, I think you kind of missed the point of the secret. The poster is just like you: He/She hates female characters, NOT women in general.

That said, I absolutely agree with you, though I don't actually hate ALL female characters. Still, I read through some of the comments and you pretty much wrote the exact same thing I would have. It's ridiculous to me that people can go that crazy over FANDOM (or fanDUMB as someone above so aptly put it). It's NOT REAL and just because a person doesn't like the female characters on TV DOES NOT mean they don't like and/or have a problem with women in general. My goodness, did they pull that out of a hat?!

Also, I DO NOT believe that "our responses to fictional characters mirror our responses to reality". WHAT? That makes no sense. I mean, it's FICTION and it's called that for a reason. I'm not involved in the fandom at all, but if I were to be a big fan of "Wincest", does that automatically mean that I'm o.k. with incest in real life? NO! And it's crazy to think it does. Again I say, it's fictional!

*Sorry for the small rant. I was just amazed at some of the responses you were getting.*

138. I kinda do, too personally. And I'm a girl. And I have NO idea if it's for the same reason or because you're just an ass, but my reason is that most fictional women aren't LIKE real women.

Either they're meek and submissive, with little substance, when I want to see a strong, well-rounded character, or the writers overdo it with the grrrrrl power, making it about kicking ass (and looking good doing it, usually).

How about some strong-willed kinda chicks with fun personalities? That can be gentle or hardass when necessary, just like many real women? The kinda chicks that guys want to marry and girls look at and go "Damn. If she was real, I'd want to be best buds, she's cool."

There are few female characters that read as "real" to me.
