I get your point but from a character design standpoint, if your character is described as a frail/delicate servant class, a skinny body sells that impression most effectively. Still I can't see why some of the pearls couldn't have been chubbier.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems totally valid way to feel, OP.

I haven't seen the show and the more I hear about it the more I think wtf.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking as a big ol' fatty fatso

Get The Fuck Over It

~And Get Some Goddamn Therapy~

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP

From your comment it kinda seems like you should be the one getting therapy.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah. Just because you feel one way about a topic doesn't mean that everyone has to feel the same way. Not even if you're a similar body type. If you truly believe this, then some "goddamn therapy" might come in handy for you as well.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Troll comment, but this is exactly what someone who got told to go therapy a lot would say.

+1

(on all points)

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
As a skinny person I love Pearl because she has no boobs or hips whatsoever and that's actually a rare body type to see in cartoons. Something like 95% of cartoon women have a typical hourglass shape going on because apparently you're not a woman without it.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially when you factor in relative screen time development for each, big ole Jasper is one of the most popular characters. So, it’s possible that you’re just being super touchy. Trust me, tall, flat-chested skinny chicks with big feet, big noses and multiple neuroses aren’t considered that attractive in the real world.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't hang out in fandom proper, but I wouldn't doubt that the fandom is being weird for Pearl. I feel like the creators of the show would definitely sympathize with you however about non-skinny people not getting enough representation in terms of sympathetic abused and oppressed characters.

I think more people, crewniverse included, would actually be quite open to that sort of storyline. Just because it's not there in the cartoon doesn't mean there wouldn't be a bunch of supporters if it were.

tl;dr - I don't think anybody hates you.

We've already seen that the Quartz gems (including Amethyst) are created to be disposable child soldiers.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Realistically speaking, who would want to enslave a landwhale? Fat people aren't attractive and they come with a bunch of health issues. Plus they need to eat more.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Fat people need to eat more?

I thought the idea was, fat people need to eat LESS, to lose weight?

And couldn't a fat person survive longer without food? I thought I heard that somewhere.

Pearl is Rebecca Sugar's self-insert and Pearls are her sex slavery fantasy so naturally they look like her

It ain't that deep

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
*doesn’t watch this show and knows almost nothing about it*

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
what the actual fuck???

Where is the proof for this? Cause it sounds like you're an "SU-critical" who's gone off the deep end.

I love and appreciate that Sugar is kinky af, but she's been open about how her self-insert is Ruby.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-05 01:05 am (UTC)(link)

I understand what kind of tropes you’re referencing here, but nothing I’ve seen when watching the show would indicate that Pearls were intended to fill those tropes. Sure, Pearls are meant to be weak and not pose a threat to their owners, but it seems like Garnet of all people is the character we’re supposed to think of as “beautiful.”

(Anonymous) 2018-10-04 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Garnet's hips don't lie.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Pearls are modeled after ballerinas who are commonly associated with extreme self-discipline and poise. they're meant to look graceful and entertaining to their owners.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-05 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I do find it funny that, of the diverse set of characters she has, Sugar chose to make the skinny, white, conventional looking gem the most oppressed/dehumanized. Like good job there, Sucrose.
