... but you had to give up the internet completely, would you take that offer? Your food and utilities are paid for, there's a generous stipend for fun purchases, the cabin is amazing and has all the amenities you could ever want, but absolutely no internet whatsoever. No cheating by visiting a cafe or library, either.

Yeah, I think I'd be fine substituting physical media.

how am I supposed to make fun purchases, phone a friend? if so, then count me in hardcore. especially if there's a hot tub. I'm going to call a buddy to mail me manga and I'll be fine.

Uh... people managed to buy things before the internet existed. It wasn't as easy or convenient, of course. But entire country economies have been built upon the ability to purchase stuff with money, somehow. ;)

Can I have friends or family living with me? I'm not staying for a night, let alone a whole year, alone in the middle of nowhere.

People can visit, but you're only allowed one fellow inhabitant, who'd have to abide by the same rules.

Assuming I get my job back without issue afterwards, my only problem would be how exactly I’d buy all my fun purchases that year, stipend or no stipend. Some stuff is hard/impossible to find in big box stores and easy to order online.

I would, although what would I do in this cabin in the woods? Do I still go to work or is this like a year-long retreat?

Can I bring things from home like my sewing machine, books, and DVDs? Can I have cable TV? Can I invite people over? Are there things to do nearby?

No. If I was going to have money left over I'd consider it but it wouldn't be worth it just to live a year for free.

a) most of my entertainment requires an internet connection (you can't just buy physical copies of games anymore, nor can you buy a boxed set of Let's Plays)
b) the internet is how I talk to 99% of my friends and acquaintences
c) What the fuck am I going to do in the woods for a year, that sounds boring as fuck

I mean, I can think of things to do, but reasons A and B are why I wouldn't even consider it. Plus a lot of the items needed for the things I could do areeasier and cheaper to get online than at the physical store.

If I have access to places where I can buy said fun purchases (art stores, bookshops, etc) then yeah, sign me up. I wouldn't even mind living on my own.

No. The majority of my current entertainment relies on the internet right now. Unless you'd get me printed copies of all the new translated chapters of several webnovels I'm currently reading, we don't have a deal.
