I didn't watch Seinfeld growing up. I still think that Seinfeld is a much, much, much funnier show in basically every way - definitely the first 5 or 6 seasons, the good ones. And obviously everything is subjective but I'm really mystified how someone could even find them comparable in quality.

This. I don't even like Seinfeld. But it is still miles better than Big Bang Theory, IMHO. That being said, humor is pretty subjective and there are clearly people who do find the latter funny.

It is super overrated. Still better than BBT for me. BBT is terrible, Seinfeld is just bad.

BBT is pretty damn bad too. I can't remember where I heard this but I heard or read it described as "geek blackface" and I think that sums it up pretty effectively.

That's what I meant. Seinfeld is bad, but BBT is worse.

Not the OP but you're definitely not alone. I grew up with it and never thought it was that funny. I feel the same way about Friends.

I didn't care for that show either. Two of them are supposed to be the dumb ones and they're ALL dumb!

It quite possibly might be overrated, but I think it's also very good. It suffers from the thing where the most wildly popular and remembered parts of the show often aren't the best.

Idk, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I think Seinfeld is hilarious, but you have to familiarize yourself with the characters and the running jokes for it to get funnier over time.

Elaine is funnier than all those BBT losers combined.

I think Big Bang Theory is more comparable to Friends tbh.

(I don't like Big Bang Theory or Friends, and never intentionally watch Seinfeld.)

Here’s the difference for me: I can sit in a room while my parents or grandparents are watching BBT and get the occasional chuckle out of it.

I’ve never willingly sat through an entire episode of Seinfeld due to how dreadfully unfunny it was.

Say what you will about Seinfeld (both the show and Jerry), but Seinfeld created its own cultural zeitgeist rather than simply draining *other* zeitgeists for sustenance the way TBBT does. There is a massive difference of effort between riffing on/deconstructing social norms the way Seinfeld did and simply inserting cultural reference #24566 at certain beats in scene and calling it a day.

Neither shows are funny, both suck and are overrated.

Hate BBT, can tolerate Seinfeld, but absolutely love Curb Your Enthusiasm.
