(Anonymous) 2018-10-21 11:47 am (UTC)(link)OTOH, I don't particularly. I don't feel the pop culture I missed out on, cartoons being only a part of it, would have been more valuable to the developing children than the wildly imaginative things we did instead, our own stories and games.
There's enough evidence now about child development to think knee jerk bans on media for little kids is probably a good thing, whatever the motive or later backlash.
Let a kid's brain development and they can find these things when they're older if they want them. Parents are constantly surprised when their kids end up making their own decisions at a certain point, but it keeps happening anyway.
I might think my parents motives were strict and narrow, but I think the results of very limited TV and later internet did us much more good than harm. Things got a lot less restrictive as we grew up.
In fact I think my youngest brother missed out a bit because he was allowed to have video games before he was ten and a lot more TV.
Maybe that makes me a fuddy duddy. Idk, I think there's something a little sad about childhood nostalgia focusing on video games and TV shows or movies too much.
