They already legalized cannabis here in California and I'm glad.

I wish discrimination against LGBT+ people were illegal, and it often is, but unfortunately here in the U.S. there seems to be a resurgence of hate.

I wish region coding and restricting downloading e-books and music to certain countries were illegal. I know why they do it, and I know they're not going to stop, but it still annoys me. I will grant that this is relatively trivial.

(Note: I'm not saying "no copyright laws." Just that I people should be able to legally pay for and download stuff from other countries.)

If I could find a job in California, I'd move in a heartbeat. Even willing to take the CA bar, which is supposed to be the hardest. I just want this stupid, awful pain to go away.

And yes to LGBT discrimination. Then again, I think we need better anti-discrimination laws in general. Some countries have laws that include private actors, and I think that is good. Sadly, in this country, "private actors" that get tax cuts (aka religious organizations and churches) are still allowed to discriminate all they want.

churches should have to pay taxes like any other business.

I agree completely. But if they don't, then they shouldn't be allowed to discriminate. Because government giving tax break is the same as government funding and therefore means there is government action. They shouldn't be allowed to have it both ways. They shouldn't be allowed to discriminate while also receiving tax breaks. They should have the exact same laws as any other government agency/employer.

well said. it also pisses me off that they get breaks in where they can park that nobody else does. I live near San Francisco, where it's ridiculously hard to find parking, and people can park to go to church where they can't park for any other reason.

Why do they do it? I mean, I get around region coding by having a region free DVD player, but the books/music is a pain.

different licensing / distribution deals in different countries, possibly?

I guess that would make sense if I weren't able to buy the DVDs legally? I dunno.

The region coding for movies supposedly has to do with the fact that if a movie came out in theaters much later than it did in another country, that country might have the DVD available before the movie actually came out. I get around it by watching stuff on my computer.

I actually don't know for sure about the books and music. I think it has to do with the copyright holders not wanting it but I have no idea why they don't want it since it would mean more people buying their stuff.
